IKEA Shops

How were they for you? I just signed up for one. The guidelines are 23 pages of repetition.

My advice is to do a search on these boards and read peoples experiences. I did after signing up for one of these shops and quickly cancelled.
jgood, I did a search. The last thread that came up was from 2010. The MSC came up in June. Nothing outside of that.

As usual, the topic has been discussed many times, but a forum search does not produce results. That's why I asked.

I wouldn't even consider doing the ikea shop unless the pay was bonused at over $200 and the MSC that does the shop payed quicker, if you look at the payment date they're one of the slowest paying MSCs out there.

If you use the google custom search (it's right above the forum search), you can get these and hundreds of other threads about the topic. The forum search itself isn't the greatest.

Generally speaking people say the shop takes 6+ hours in the store, and then you still have to write the report. Numerous people have had to go back and get more info, associates in the store are hard or even impossible to find (there's some stupid amount of interactions), and lots of people have had there reports invalidated.

I would email the scheduler and cancel it.
Thanks Chris. That came up in my forum search.

Thank you! This is what I was searching for. Very enlightening!

While I've never done an IKEA shop before, I have actually been a real consumer as of yesterday. For those that have shopped it, my hat is off to you. This store is one that you can easily get lost in based on its unique setup. Interestingly enough, the setup itself seems to be incredibly organized!

Just too much merchandise at good prices. Best of luck to the shopper that actually accepts an assignment. Shopping as a real customer is challenging!
I did one several weeks ago... It was a difficult, exhausting shop. I went at a time the store was "less crowded" and spent about two hours in the store. It would have been much longer were it not for the fact that I never had to wait for help - due to the fact that there were not many real customers. The hardest part is that there are something like ten different employees with whom you have to have significant interactions. I'm reasonably sharp, but found that after each department, I had to hide in a corner and review the guidelines for the next department (this is encouraged with good reason). I then spent 2 or 3 hours writing up the report..... I did it for $75 as a first assignment with the MSP (think: "foot in door). However, I would not want to do another for less than $100. $200 during peak hours.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I have learned these is one of those not a pole long enough shops thanks to the forum. I won't touch one for under a grand and I have never done one.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
Thanks everyone!

I am going to do the shop tomorrow. This will be my first time with this MSC. I will report back on how it goes.

Just saw one where I am traveling near in the two days. Hell no at $65. I can't believe after being warned HonnyBrown is going to still do it.

My advice: Pick one

1. Ikea Shop
2. Swallowing red ants in a flaming pit of fire.

Which do you choose? tongue sticking out smiley
Yes, Honny is still going to do it. I have learned on this forum that a 10 ft pole shop for others may be enjoyable for me. The only way I can find out is if I try it out for myself.

Good Luck,
I'm looking forward learning to how you feel about this shop afterwards. You may take to it like a duck to water. If so, you may have a career doing IKEA shops all over the country. Somebody has to do them, why not you?
This was a "duck to water" shop for me! Everything flowed like clockwork from start to finish, and I was well prepared. On top of that, I had fun and took my time walking through the departments whether I shopped them or not. In at 11:30 and done at 2.

The report was lengthy, especially after the first half hour and I saw that I had close to 200 OOPS! But the narratives were easy thanks to my notes.

Unfortunately, my opinion doesn't matter. I'll have to wait and see what the editor says.

You all were instrumental in making this shop enjoyable and easy. Thanks to your feedback, I was well prepared, took my time, made quality notes and did a (hopefully) great report!

Hats off to you! I also did one and I'm one of the ones who also said never again. Now, be prepared to chase them around for payment after 3 months, and don't forget to send them your invoice at the end of the month...
I used to do them all the time when they paid $80, $90, $100. But now they have dropped the fee to $55 in my area, which is insulting. They were very detailed but I enjoyed the challenge (as long as the pay was pretty good).

none
I sent the invoice in. I guess they pay like ath?

There's only one store in my area. I hope there's no rotation, because I can do this shop again and again.

You may want to see where the next closest ones are to you. You may be able to become a road warrior for IKEA shops. It does seem they are hard to fill, so maybe a bonus or something nice could come your way. Team it up with some reasonable hotel shops, food shops, and you could be on your way.
I'm not a full time shopper. I shop mainly between work and home. I would have to do another IKEA location on a weekend, which is not going to happen.

I got feedback from my shop report yesterday. No edits were needed! YAY!

"I told myself to quit you; but I don't listen to drunks." -Chris Stapleton
Now you wait to be paid. I did one of this back in April, also with no edits required and have yet to see payment.

I'm glad someone likes to do them but after three and a half hours in IKEA and another hour and a half to do the report. And the long wait for payment, this is definitely on my ten foot pole list b
Ok, so I accepted one of these because I genuinely enjoy wandering IKEA for hours, but now I've read all the past posts and I'm thinking I can find a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. What happens if I cancel? Will I be burning a bridge with that company? It sounds like they must know people hate these, if I do cancel do I make up a dog ate my homework excuse or do I just say I read the cheat sheet and I'm still too green and I can't do it?
You should check out the forum before you consider the IKEA shops.
Short answer: Don't take it.
corylus, I think you should try it. The shop went perfectly for me, but was a nightmare for others. You won't know if it's a good shop for you unless you try it.

I went on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded. The employees were easy to find, and most were helpful. Take notes on all of them. When you have lunch, organize your notes.

Good luck! I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
