How many "Senior" Shoppers Out There???

I was reading in another post, that one of our frequent posters, Irene_L.A., is nearing 80!! That's impressive!! I myself am 64, and have been MSing off and on since 2005. I used to do lots more several years ago, averaging about $1000-1400/month. Now I work only sporadically, averaging about $200/month. But I'm impressed with Irene.....at near-80, from some of her posts, she does some route shopping now & then, driving a good bit! You go, girl!!

67 here!
Love the flexibility of mystery shopping!
Wish shops didn't have upper age limits. I still have all my marbles and some of my looks, ha ha.
I don't still have all my marbles -- but I still do have all my teeth!

70 here.

I do get carded when I ask for the senior discount.....
A lot of my best shoppers are seniors!

I used to do shops in Beverly Hills monthly (30 miles one way), but since having lost that account, I seldom do that kind of driving, more in my city now. Thankful there are a good variety of shops here, but losing NSS and worried about Whole foods, we'll see. I will tell you, this is addicting, when I don't do anything for a few days, can't wait to work....very good for my spirit and mind. I truly believe age is just a #, and do push myself, as keeping busy is the answer for empty nest seniors. I mostly work for reimbursement, food and restaurants, although I do many Medicare and Business Verification for Trend and Second to None. I work for a select few Boutique MSC's, not the huge ones. I now feel great, and having been the baby of the family, what the h__ happened. This is a great industry for seniors who are flexible, experienced and detailed. Being productive doesn't allow time for being on the "Pity Pot" as my Therapist daughter tells me. I want to make her proud!!

Eited to add: My cousin Dianne Feinstein turns 83 and is NOT retiring, but going for another stay in the Senate.....good Genes......My family lived into their late 90's, healthy and wise.

Way to go, Irene! I'll be hitting the big SIX-OH early next year, and am looking forward to all of those Medicare shops in just a couple of years. After 34 years at the telephone company, this make-your-own-schedule job is great. Best wishes to you, Irene, for many more happy and successful shopping years!

Not for everyone: "As a result, foods seem bland and our sensitivity to taste decreases, particularly after the age of 60, he says. In addition, we often produce less saliva as we age and our sense of smell diminishes, which makes it difficult for taste buds to detect flavor, he says."

64 here soon to be 65. I like the flexibility and variety. I do what interests me, food and services. I'm not getting rich, but the bills are paid, a little money for extras and get to treat my friends as well. It's good!
I shall be in 35-40 years. smiling smiley

I have to say that I'm impressed with the seniors who can make those long drives for remote shop locations! Driving is a killer on my back!!
I'm 65 and feel shopping keeps all my skills sharp. I don't want my brain to start slacking off. Following some of the guidelines to the letter can be a challenge no matter what your age.
I'm 58 and most of the age restrictions make sense to me that I've seen. Senior Living home audit had both an upper and lower age limit because they wanted someone to be looking for a senior parent. Interestingly enough they also had one with a MINIMUM age of 70 because they were to inquire for themselves. A couple of months ago I was caught by surprise that I was almost too old to do a motorcycle shop (top limit of 59). But I guess it kind of makes sense. Although my husband is 61 and he'd be glad to do one of these as he is a rider. But age excludes him.

What's done is done. An egg cracked cannot be cured.
There are 3 kinds of lies. Lies, Damn lies, and statistics.
That seems odd to me as most motorcycle riders I know are near or in retirement.

I know a lot of riders in the 45-65 range. The upper end of that group is usually more interested in touring bikes while a lot of the shops I see are for crotch rockets.

I'm nearing 64. Does my 50cc scooter count as a motorcycle? It goes 55 mph on a flat surface.....with no wind.

So all of your biker friends are younger?

Than you? Yes.

I have gotten the age restriction waived on many shops. I always tell the scheduler I can be shopping for my son or grandson. Then I go in and do the shop, concentrating on "since this is my only son, and he wants this monster, I want to check out the safety factors before I give him the money to buy one". Schedulers love it!

If that doesn't work with the schedulers, I tell them I "pass" for much younger. And I do.
I have very old knees, but my heart is about 28.

When shopping for 4+ bedroom houses with 3 car garages, I just say that my grandsons will be living with me while their mom is in Antarctica most of the next 4 years. And, I need a second master suite for when she is with us 3 months of the year.

Funny. Reminds me of my aunt who used to say her son was in the Arctic Circle on a 6 month fishing trip. We're all pretty sure he was in jail. smiling smiley
Sadly, age restrictions are usually passed down to us by the client. Some are more strict than others. Trust me, age restrictions make our jobs harder (narrows down the shopper pool), but we have to follow what we're contracted to provide. sad smiley

I am turning 73 in July. I love shopping. Most of my jobs are banking and airport shops. Pays for manicure, pedicure and hair. My hearing and taste buds are still fine. I walk four miles a day when I have time. Take art lessons and belong to the book club at my library. I go to most of my grandsons sporting events, proms, graduations, ages 23, 18, and 16. I can still ski. I climbed Mt. Washington when I was in my 40s. I traveled from Mexico to San Francisco for a month with my husband. I have owned my own business in Faneuil Hall Boston for 40 years, retired now. Just a little bragging. Hi Irene!

Right! I'm 56, LOVE grilled cheese and eat there often. But that shop has an age limit of 40. ???

And why can I not ms for the fancy jewelry beads?
I will be 61 next week and just started shopping this spring when I semi-retired. I would love to get some house/apartment shops and Medicare shops soon, but I guess I am not signed up with the right MSCs. One problem is that I sign up with a company and then find they have very few shops in my area. Is there a list somewhere to help with that?
Registering with companies is the sweat equity we put into a business that can otherwise be started on a shoestring. The thing to keep in mind is new clients come, old clients go and they can change MSCs. There are some who primarily shop specific times of the year. What the MSC has now is most likely going to change.

I have some companies I have never worked with over the last nine years. Others had nothing for several years then suddenly they picked up a lucrative client. Most registrations take five minutes or less. By being registered with the vast majority, you aren't going to be in a position of hunting down jobs. You will already know.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.
