Five Guys

I haven't tried the cajun fries yet, probably won't. Usually they are all over, what part of the country are you in ?

I eat a reasonable amount of the fries with my burger and take the rest home. The next morning, I dice up the remaining fries and raid the fridge for any leftovers like; onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc. I mix them all up in a skillet, cook them up and finish the dish with a couple over easy eggs on top. A perfect breakfast skillet and a good use for the leftover fries....

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl -- year after year..."
I get a double cheeseburger, little fry, little soda. Eat a few fries, half of the burger and take the leftovers home. I end up tossing the fries but nuke the burger and it's not bad warmed up the next day. I usually do one of these shops cause it's close to my house and I eat out most of the time anyway but I've been lucking out by getting a highly bosnused 5G about 60 miles from me at the end of the month.
They aren't bonused that much for me but it's a good deal. I eat most, if not all of my meal at the store.
I finish the burger, but end up taking most of the fries home. We have one of those pizza pans, the metal circle pan with holes throughout the bottom. I reheat the fries in the oven, using that pan, and they turn out great!
I've done quite a few 5G shops, and the bonuses ARE great. I'm just not disciplined enough to not eat the food (or at least give it to someone). I did far too many in a short time period and even when I switched to a BLT, the fries still killed me. Think I gained 5 pounds in that week, started feeling really crappy, so I've stopped accepting them for a while.
Just have a few fries and a lite burger or grilled cheese. If you're making good money, why stop ?

grilled cheese + tomatoes (ask for extra tomatoes = no extra cost) + bacon (if desired) + small reg fries (not the really salty cajun...eat 2 or 3 & throw the rest) + small fountain drink (unsweetened black tea + add lemon wedges that they have) and...boom.
LOL! Last night I did a mystery shop at a different burger place (similar to Five Guys in many ways only they have serve staff) and it was because of all the timings that I'd done for Five Guys that I was like - this is taking way too long. I was like - I'd rather go to Five Guys where I don't have to wait an extra 5+ minutes for my food and I don't have to wait an extra 20 minutes combined to order and finally pay. All so I could pay an extra $6 for equal food. I was annoyed. All because of Five Guys. LOL

I don't worry about calories when I am taking a 5 Guys shop. Bring on the mayo and bacon, baby. I don't like their fries that much and usually only eat a few (the crispiest ones). I only do these shops maybe 6 times a year and it's always about the bonus (won't do one for less than a $20 shop fee) so...
How do you manage to get a $20 shop fee for a Five Guys shop? Do you quote your desired fee if/when the MSC calls asking your help to do the shop? In my experience, I've noticed that when the MSC calls about a Five Guys shop, they really lowball the fee. Is that when you place your bid for $20?
I like doing 5G when a Milkshake is part of the reimbursement. I take my father and I eat the burger/fries/drink and he gets the shake. He is happy as am I. I find if I get a Grilled Cheese sandwich (which is actually very good) I can get Regular Fries and a Drink and go maybe 15-cents over. I'd rather go 15-cents over than $1 under.
I usually go over $1-2 by getting a regular meal but i think it's worth it. I can't watch every nickel & dime.
BION, I actually got a $75 BONUS for a FG this week! It was a bit of a drive, however I picked up more shops on the way and back. EOTM BONUS TIME! Yeah, Baby!

I likee da recipe to use up the excess fries! I normally put them out for my squirrels and birds. I am gonna try that one!

I really like their fries, but their veggie sandwich is pathetic.

I could've taken a bonused 5G today or tomorrow, but I'm done for the month. When I said I couldn't do it today for $16, she upped it to $17 but I had to apologize and say it wasn't about the money, I was just unable to do it.

If the scenario requires you to purchase a milkshake, do you have to order it at the same time as you order the entree, fries and drink or can you order the milkshake at a later time during your shop?

Just order your milkshake and ask to get it prepared at the end of your meal.

Squirrels eat french fries? I am going to have to see if I can fatten up Oscar, Homer, and Gertrude a little bit for winter. I have been feeding them sunflower seeds. Who knew. French fries.

Just found out last visit that they don't charge for extra bacon if you get a bacon cheeseburger with extra bacon. I was so happy to find that out!
Yeah, I always order and pay for the milkshake with my meal and then tell them I want it on my way out for dessert. Never been an issue.

I totally agree they are expensive. But their menu is somewhat healthier than their competitors. Burgers are never frozen, buns have basically 5 ingredients and fries cooked in peanut oil. Sure McDonalds is cheaper, especially the value menu where a cheeseburger is sometimes a buck or buck fortynine but they have so many more chemicals and additives. Plus many 5guys offer the free peanuts. Also 5guys offers many more topings for free for the price of a little burger. 5guys also gives much more fries than mickey d's. I'm not advocating 5guys but merely mentioning some differences.
For those of us lucky enough to live in the area, In-N-Out offers about the same meal, always fresh, much better fries, and for about half the price. And just as clean.

On the topic of gloves, studies have shown they are no different or better for sanitary reasons than clean, bare skin, but they just make people feel better, and maybe are required in some places due to overreaching government regs?

You never see a chef wearing gloves (okay, hardly ever, for the purists).

That's what makes Five Guys fries a great value. An order of little fries (or large fries when I get that AMEX $5 of $20 coupon) goes a long ways to share with the entire family as leftovers.
I have noticed the portion of little fries to be smaller for delivery orders. I'm not a big fan of their fries, but even so it is disappointing to get a half cup of fries and just a few more in the bag. They have nerve charging $3+ for that.

Great idea, and you won't have to add salt, because lord knows the fries have enough!
Usually 5guys is very good with gloves. If you notice they change gloves right after handling the raw meat. I think it is more sanitary that the workers fingernails, etc aren't handling the food does make it cleaner. The employees do answer the phone and then wear gloves afterwards. The phone is a cesspool of germs.

I remember talking to a manager of Zoe's and he said they are very stringent on cleanliness and triple wash salads. They wash their hands frequently and wear gloves. The manager washed his hands after every phone call. Then on the opposite end, i saw a new employee wear gloves at the register of a burger place. He handled money and then with the same gloves went to prepare my fries. I had to tell the manager.

Next time i do a shop with shake, i'll have to ask for it after i get done with the main meal. That is a good tip.

That's good that you're reporting that. For every single shop I've ever had and ordered little fries, I always get a full scoop, plus an additional half scoop of so of fries in that little tray.

Like others - I do the same and have never had an issue with it
Did my milkshake shop today. Thanks, fellow shoppers for letting me know I could ask for my shake after eating. It was news to my cashier, who got this confused look on his face and suggested I just come back up to the counter and place a second order. My MS brain screams, "nononononoOnly1receipt!" I gave him a look and then another crew member told him to just ring it all up at once and said to me "Just bring your receipt to the counter when you want to get your shake."

Also as I was waiting for my food (those high top tables are a godsend to short shoppers) the manager unwittingly helped me out by exhorting her team to move faster by shouting. "I'm seeing 4 minutes here!" I never look at my watch, even when I stop timing - I just push the button. Final number tonight 6:34:05. grinning smiley
