Five Guys Meals Are Now $15.00+ - WAY Beyond Reimbursement

That was my recent total for Little Hamburger, Small Fry, and Regular (their smallest) Drink.

Time to up the reimbursements!!! (of $12.75 only)

Our MS concerns aside, Five Guys really needs to stop raising prices. I am noticing the restaurants becoming less and less busy at what should be peak times on the occasional times I do one of these shops. Doing one of the first time in two months today actually.

Removing the drink $2.49...It's about $10.00 (pre-tax) for SMALL burger and fries.

I think that's definitely a little too pricey. Maybe anything under $7-8 would draw more people. I've seen no change in business at my locations, though.

For $13.91, I'd rather eat at Texas Roadhouse on Wednesday night for their $9.99 8 oz. sirloin. We like to go on Wednesdays when I take their shops. That way, you can get two steaks and an appetizer and be under the $35.00 reimbursement.

But, yeah, the value of a TXRH dinner for $10.00 (with unlimited bread) is way better than FG to me if eating on my own dime.

I began the shop at 12:30 today and was the ONLY person in the restaurant for all but the last 5 minutes of the time I was there.
Only time I saw the manager was towards the end, telling a crew member they could go home early. Hey, that's leadership! winking smiley

The ones here are always busy. Esp. the one by the movie theater. Lots of kids, teens, and YA's going. I've gone myself just eat buy fries after a movie on my own dime.

The one that is slow always is the one in the rich neighborhood area that is more secluded from major shopping and business areas. You have to drive sort of to the middle of nowhere to get to that rich neibhordhood.

If I ever opened one, the ideal location for me would maybe be beside a movie theater too!

That's strange. My meal (little cheeseburger, regular fries, and regular drink) is only $12.04.

I had a burger (two patties), little fry, and large drink yesterday for $12.79. Only four cents over reimbursement. Must not have raised prices here yet.

Certain locations that I shop are well under reimbursement for a veggie sandwich with bacon. My little bacon cheeseburger bowl was under also.

I only got what I liked, the bacon burger and I always went over reimbursement...my problem is with the price of their fries and drink, so, I'm on strike with these overpriced burger places and guess what. not having done any for a month I lost 6 pounds and don't miss them.....

Same order for me is $12.34 including tax. Sub grilled cheese $11.59, sub hot dog 12.02. No one should be charging $5 for a freaking hot dog!!

@HonnyBrown I'm going to try the bowl next time. I get bored with those squishy "lightly toasted" buns and I'm sure as heck not paying as much for a grilled cheese or hot dog as I do a burger.

Jenny, I first tried the bacon cheeseburger bowl a few weeks ago and I loved it! They put the A-1 and pickles on the side. Those are still in the fridge. A few days later, I got the veggie sandwich bowl. That is my new go to.

I used their app (website works also) to check prices and am not sure how anyone can go over reimbursement ordering a plain single patty burger, small fries and regular fountain drink? I choose to add bacon and at 6% tax spend about 13.30.

I check their prices too and I can assure you that a little burger, small fries and drink is way over reimbursement in my area. It all depends on the area where you shop. Prices are much more in certain areas..Plus our sales tax is way more than 6% too.

We were at $13.01 in 2018. Now, it's $13.91.

At this rate, it could be $15-16 for a small hamburger, small fries, and regular drink by 2020. sad smiley sad smiley sad smiley

I complained to the MSC earlier this year, and that was when my order was $13 something. Same meal is now $14 and change. I order the little bacon cheese burger, little fries and small drink. The last time, I left off the bacon - still went over. When the overseas people call, I tell them I have to up my fee to pay the remaining reimbursement or I don't take them. And I agree, even the food court at a huge mall has no line anymore. Any restaurant in that mall is now competition. Shake Shack shops cost way more - but reimburse the full meal. It seems everyone is raising their prices by $1. Bonefish Grill always had $6 Bang Bang Shrimp on Wednesday - now they are $7.

Five Guys are closing one by one in my area. So many burger chains out there now. Their prices are somewhat on the higher side. My biggest complaint is they have not changed their menu ever. It just gets boring after awhile. I usually order veggie sandwich and check for the quality. Take one bit and throw it out.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. That's how I can go over the reimbursement buying a small burger, fries and soda. LOL

Seriously, though, I think the prices just vary depending on the market that you're in.

It's $13.43 where we are now, $11.85 back home. Home is a much more expensive area compared to where we are now.

The Five Guys locations near me are never very busy anytime I’ve gone in. I really think the food is not that great, and the menu needs to be updated, which isn’t likely to happen. I think the way the assignment is written gives good evidence of that, that we are to judge the flavor of the food based on the way they make it and not on how it tastes to an average palette.

Beside that, it is a spendy shop. I rarely take them.

I dunno. It's a tough one. I come from a family with lots of entrepreneurs in the food space.

Sometimes you don't want to tinker with a masterpiece. I think of In-N-Out. I think they've been the same for decades?

I agree there are lots of interesting competitors out there with their own unique styles. Fatburger, Whataburger, Habit Burger, Culver Burger, Shake Shack, Smashburger, etc. etc.

I really like FG's style. smiling smiley It's pure natural ingredient flavor to me. You don't have some thick or powerful tasting sauce that hides the natural flavor of their beef. Nor is the bun coated with globs of butter and super sugary.
I like their plain egg buns that allow the taste of that fresh meat patty to shine. They fresh cut their fries (and all veggies) EVERY morning. They taste fresh and natural. Not frozen. You taste the potato and skins' natural flavors.

I LOVE YOU FIVE GUYS. PLEASE DON'T EVER CHANGE. grinning smiley

But I get that others may want a new twist or different style of burger at times. A business does have to be careful to expand into something else, though, as they could lose money if it's not popular.

For me, it's not the food, but more the price personally.

I rarely eat whole meals there when not on shops. I might grab a shake (they have the best milk shakes imho) or fries. But, I cannot stomach a $6-8 small or medium hamburger. Just too much for my budget.

It'd be interesting if reports asked us what we thought of the prices of places...

Same here. A few weeks ago I did two burger shops on consecutive days, one at Sonic and one at 5Gs. Cheeseburger, fries, drink. Sonic $7.xx and 5Gs $12.xx. The 5Gs food is no better, and certainly not $5 better, though "better" is a matter of opinion.

Yes, the grilled cheese sandwiches are good. Usually, I should say. I've gotten a couple that were only so-so. And extra cheese does not cost extra, at least at rhe locations I do.
