Need ideas on what/where to ship for USPS shop today

I usually ship stuff I've sold on eBay, but don't have anything today at the 1-2 lb. weight needed. I know some of you send food to food banks, and I'll take a look to see what I have, but I don't think I have anything extra.

What types of items do you usually ship and to what types of businesses/charities? Thanks for any suggestions!

Spaghetti, or other odds and ends I might pick up on gas station shops. Or, just a stack of paper (that I'll weigh in advance). They go to family members who know why the box is coming.
I mail boxes of junk to myself...Chase brochures, catalogs, 1 lb bag of beans. As long as it's not your zip code, you can mail to yourself. I pull off the stickers and reuse the boxes until they are worn out.

Oh! Yes, I hadn't thought of that. I know it cannot be sent to the same zip code as the Post Office, but thought it would be weird to ship it three towns away to myself, with my name/address on both recipient and return address. However, they're not there to judge, so I guess I can do that.

I put a different return address on it...not my own. Don't think that would be good

I would use a different return address. I mail packages from my son's address to myself.

I could just say I'm on my way to the airport and shipping this to myself before I go, if asked. I have actually done that in real life.

I think it would be great if the MSC would reimburse you (up to $2 or so) if you ship some socks to a homeless shelter or some undies--or HBA products.

What I do is ship fabric to my girlfriend. She has a side gig making high quality dog collars. So I have been buying the cheap cotton fabric from Wal*Mart and sending 2 at a time to her. She is turning them into the dog collars and accessories.

They do reimburse the postage, up to $14. It has to be sent Priority.
Not only can it not be the same zip code, It cannot be in Zone "0"

Nyc, i look for abandonned properties on realtor .com in the post office zip code and use a diiferent name on the return address. Then send it home. But I try to only do that from another county. These days most of the local shipping shops go to folks in other states. I have enlisted shipping partners in MO, MD, TX, and CA. I still use the return addresses from the areas local to the PO, because it seems strange to me to mail a package from me in a city that is 70 or more miles away from the return address.
I mail a box of spaghetti to a food pantry. I've been doing it that way for years unless I have something I really need to ship.
I ship cans of cat food to animal shelters. My cat is allergic to salmon, so I save out those cans from multi-packs. The cans also have their weights listed, so it's easy to put enough in the shipping box to meet the weight requirement. You can google for ASPCA and no-kill animal shelters located some distance from you to see if they accept such donations.
I ship home baked goods to my kiddos who all live in zones 5-8! In grocery stores I look for empty boxes--some are so thick they are almost a pound empty.
If you ship to animal shelters--do you know they usually can use worn towels for the dogs to sleep on?
I recently cleaned out my linen closet and made local animal shelter a great donation.
Lately i've been shipping clothing donations to KY and other areas impacted by natural disasters. When I clean out closets, I just keep a bag of the stuff and use it for shipping shops.
I ship donations to animal shelters as well. It is a great way to help out with free shipping!
Wow, what great suggestions. Keep 'em coming! I will use some of these for next time if I don't have any eBay sales to ship.

I wound up shipping to myself. The PO was several towns away from my address. I looked it up at usps.com and shipping from there to my home was Zone 1, and not considered local for some reason, so therefore acceptable. Let's hope anyway (ya never know what technicality they'll get ya for).
Here is a homeless shelter in Tampa, FL that I use. I called them and let them know what I was doing and that they would be getting boxes with one bag of rice, beans, . . . I asked for a name (not the shelter's name) that I could send it to. They are in Zone 1. Here is what I have:
Yolanda Urso
4702 Transport Dr. #6
Tampa, FL 33605
I ship 1-pound boxes of baking soda that I buy at Aldi for about 70 cents and then I put them in a plastic bag since they tend to leak. I reuse them over and over. I look for inexpensive cans that weigh about 1 pound., I have several people that I mail to and they return them to me. Although this month I have yet to see the USPS shops listed.

Be careful; I read in the guidelines that it has to be shipped to a different zip code AND to a different city.
Yes as mentioned above you cannot send to zone zero. I live in Los Angeles where there are probably at least 40 but more likely many more zip codes within the metro area. When I started these jobs years ago I checked and none of them worked. I can ship to the next county tho. Zone 8 is now over the reimbursement so I have to use part of my fee to ship to my son now. Hoping a few small bonuses will show up soon.

You can to me in 89110 if that is in your reimbursed area, and I'll send box back to you when my next USPS shops comes up.
Thanks for the offer wolfman. If it is for me I have a backlog of things to send to my son and daughter right now. For the op they are in NY it seems over $16 to ship. If I need your "services" I will get in touch. That last sentence did not come out right. lol
Of course, a different city. I've done tons of these and have always been accepted. I know the rules ..thanks..

It's become a kind of joke, but I often mail "Texaroni" to my Mom and sisters. It's Texas-shaped pasta from the Skinner brand. Only in Texas would we feel the need to make pasta shaped like our state! My family's back on the east coast and my niece and nephew especially find this very amusing.

I'll also take any excuse to mail silly little gifts to friends. People don't get enough happy mail these days!
I sent 1.5 lb of junk mail to a recycle center in a neighboring state. Been doing it for years. No more worries about a mail buddy or items to mail.
