Cream of. And using shitake mushrooms (rehydrated, of course). This version also includes some minced onion and garlic, of course. Also pairs well with noodles.

Edited to correct the type of mushrooms. A very large bag of dried shitakes can be had for a nice low price thru Amazon!

Between the chocolate store, cheese store, and maple syrup store i spent a good $130 today. Looks like I'm having some kind of chocolatey mapley cheesy dinner.

We are making the hubby's "Pasta Dish". (He assures you that it is not a craft project involving macaroni, glue, and paper plates.)

"planned overs." I like that! A colleague used to have "musgo" for dinner. Leftovers needed to be used up or they "must go" in the trash.
Yes. It is perfect. I have been doing this for decades, having learned about it from books that were published in the 70's and earlier. i wonder how walesmaven learned about these little tricks that save money and time. I mean, how much time do we spend (if we care about what we eat) looking up multi-syllabic ingredients in processed "foods"?!?

Anyway, I am having leftover "Pasta Dish".

Something in the aeroport most likely.

Shop-et-al,
In the 1960s Peg Bracken's "I Hate to Cook Book," was my entree to the world of (and to the term), "planned overs." I was a full time student, with a part time job and newly married. We had a VERY tight budget and (even then) student debt. My then husband held a full time job, and a part time job AND we managed a 12 unit apartment building in return for reduced rent. He also cooked and shared chores like laundry. I didn't hate to cook, but we had little time and needed all the planning and short cuts that we could find, without relying upon expensive (for us) ingredients like prepared soups, mixes, etc.

These days, I can buy better fresh ingredients but I "cook big" and freeze entrees, homemade stocks, and pasta sauce for the next few weeks. That means that I eat better as a single than most families eat. And, you will have to pry my 7 qt. slow cooker from my cold dead hands. (NOT a Crockpot; those boil everything, even when set on low!) I use that to make large batches of chicken stock to reduce and freeze. I also have a 3 qt and a 1.5 qt, and those two are often both in use at the same time when I am cooking ahead.

I still have Peg's cookbook and use it from time to time! Another favorite is "Ten Dinner Parties for Two" by Frances Bissell.

Experimenting with making a group of appetizers that I encountered on a couple of hotel bar shops recently. All were served together and accompanied by garlicy toast or toasted pita.
1. tapenade of stuffed green olives and artichoke hearts
2. hummus with garlic
3. chopped tomato and cucumber salad

I am thinking of having some cold grilled fish with this, but not totally decided yet.

I love having a meal of appetizers. When serving hummus my go to toppings are either pine nuts toasted in olive oil with herbs, roasted red pepper puree or diced cucumbers or all of the abovesmiling smiley
