I never understood that, either. We eat low on the food chain on a regular basis, so for us giving up meat means beans or greens. Or a combination of the two. We splurge a couple of times during Lent and attend our church's fish fry, because the money goes to a good cause.

Planning to treat myself to a Shake Shack burger and fries while doing a parking shop 2 blocks from one in DC. This morning a neighbor is coming to help me to dismount a large dual window blind in my kitchen box window, It has a lifetime warranty and the control strings broke 2 days ago. It takes at least 4 hands to bundle a large blind for transport, and dismounting it will also be a challenge. ("Dual" meaning that it can be opened top-down or bottom-up. Ideal for a balance of privacy and natural light.)

Major eye Dr. appt. 8:30AM, with tests galore. I have everything wrong one person can have, now am on antibiotics for an eye infection, The Dr. said he will do my upper lids for me in a few months, elective surgery.
Working on this dry eye infection thing today..6 drops per day, plus salve......happy V-day to those that celebrate..

Did something very different today. A friend of mine from my merchandising days also works at a florist shop, arranging the deliveries. She texted me about 10 days ago, and asked if I would be interested in driving a route of deliveries for Valentine's Day, so I said, sure, if one was in the afternoon. So it was all set up, and I did this as an IC....interesting, and tiring, too! But it was something different to do!

A couple of years ago I started using fresh pasta from time to time when making seafood pasta dishes--the kind that is found in the refrigerated section of my grocery store (usually near the deli and specialty cheese sections). I tried Buitoni which was good. I recently discovered Giovanni Rana, which is REALLY good. Folks, if you have never used fresh pasta, spoil yourself (and someone close) sometime and get it. It is a tad more expensive than boxed dry pasta but it is soooooooo much better tasting and has a lovely texture, too. I bought Giovanni Rana artichoke stuffed ravioli today and tonight I used it. I made a garlic cream sauce with chicken broth and some heavy cream (about 1/2 bulb of garlic) seasoned with lemon pepper. I tossed some of the ravioli in it and let it simmer. At the end I added fresh cut asparagus spears and a diced roma tomato, turned off the heat, and covered it. Then I chopped up two 7 oz. oven broiled lobster tails and tossed those in, adding a handful of shredded Parmesan after plating with a sprinkle of fresh parsley. It was pretty wonderful, LOL. My husband was a happy camper this Valentine's Day

He bought me a nice orchid plant and I am looking forward to a foot massage later...

I had fun on Valentine's day. There was a little trip into the wide open spaces (because work days have sprung lives of their own and have made it impossible to accomplish much on any travel day). There was a little work between chocolate fests.I intended to post to the forum that I was passing by available assignments, just in case someone wanted extra work in the boonies. Translation, big bonuses may be available for the intrepid. But every time I started to post, I went out of range. (Hubby was driving.) Maybe someone will come through and pick up these jobs.

I agree. I still have a hand-cranked pasta maker I bought back in the 1980s. We eat very little pasta at our house, but occasionally I'll pull it out and use it. Then wonder why I don't use it more often.

Jas, I have a shrimp and angel hair pasta recipe that calls for fresh pasta. I couldn't believe the difference. Soooo tender.

I used to buy fresh pasta from St Lawrence Market and because of my condition, I have been using boxed pasta from the grocery. I agree, there is a huge, huge difference. One of these days, I will ask my son or a friend to accompany me to St Lawrence so I could buy the good stuff. You get to taste the fresh pasta and the sauce before you buy them. All the friends I took there remember the experience and had been asking when I was planning to go. It is where I get my salmon and seafoods and yes, the best bread ever. Also the source of my unpasteurized honey and organic fruits and vegetables.

Today, the guys from CJK (?) finally came to attach the fibre optik after almost one month of having originally scheduled it. My living room is now livable and I can organize my stuff to do my income tax. I dumped the materials in a box when I found out they were coming and now I started scattering them around to make my work faster.

Back in the 80s I had a handcranked pasta machine, too. It is a lot of work and some of the thinner pasta didn't turn out very well. But, my lasagna noodles were awesome! I have also made lasagna using homemade crepes that turned out really good, too, and so easy!

Guysmom,it must have been an exciting experience, delivering Valentine's bouquets...

Jas...I'm making pasta tonight (hardly ever have it), and now will be running out to our Italian grocery and get fresh pasta...I know it will be better than packaged.

Had a good conversation with my college daughter. She is looking into a rental instead of the dorm next year with a group of students. She wants to eat healthier and she doesn't mind cooking. I'm starting to collect items she will need. Rotary at lunch, work until 6, leftovers from the last three days for supper, Netflix, bed. Tax season makes for a boring routine, lol.

So I finished my daily task list and have allowed myself a little time to play on the forum. My favorite item on the list was to read as much as I wanted to... and I loved that!

Went to a private Valentine's Dance with friends at an old dancehall in the country. Got up early and had breakfast tacos with my daughter before she had to leave for college. Started laundry and went to work. Making a nice supper and a little TV.

Went to coffee with my senior group, beautiful day..going to do Krogers soon, then report, then play around.
My daughter sent text and pic's, she just got home from her week in the Bahama's, a yoga retreat on the beach.Eyes feeling better on my new drops, finally.....

I waited around for a delivery, only to find out they sent the wrong part. After apologizing profusely, said they'd be back next Tuesday. Ran some errands, then took one of the cats to the vet. He regurgitated some food yesterday, then started coughing and wheezing and was quite lethargic. I was afraid he may had aspirated the kibbles. Several tests later the vet determined he had a respiratory infection and the beginnings of a UTI. She was also concerned about his weight loss. We now have three pills we have to give him. If you've ever tried to medicate a cat you know it's NOT fun.

I'm studying for my Property Managers license. Some sections are easy and some I've failed all the practice tests. This old brain is getting a workout! Its certainly doesn't come to me like it did decades ago. We're also waiting for more snow to arrive.
