What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

If you've ever tried to medicate a cat you know it's NOT fun.
KathyG, YES YES YES, I've been there!!! Several cats over my lifetime have had to be medicated. I usually ended up wearing THICK garden gloves to keep my hands from getting shredded!!! Hope your little kitty improves!!

Once a month, on Tuesdays, usually somewhere in the middle of the month, I have lunch with my friend, Karen. We've been doing this for a couple of years now. It's great just to meet and chat for about 2 1/2 hours about anything and everything!! I look forward to it, and am glad today was that day. Afterwards, I got my hair washed and cut....it looks SO much better now!!

Irene & Alieda, Hope your health issues with your eyes are resolving!!

It was 71 degrees here, which broke records in NE Ohio. Tomorrow it's going to be 45, which is still much higher than normal. But, it's supposed to rain (today we saw the sun for awhile). Yuk on the rain.
5 days of rain on the way, had a nice day today. I've been having life happen, had to put a kitty down, had another get run over the very next day. I got sick which is very rare, probably because of all the kale and whole veggies I eat. Tomorrow I have a full day of cleaning planned. I'm kind of excited about it. I haven't scheduled any shops so that I can give it my full attention. We got some new windows in two rooms so out with the old curtains and in with the new. It's always nice to freshen things up.
My husband and I are at my daughters. We are taking care of three Labs. They are like my grandkids now. Daughter is in Disney with 82 temperatures, Margaritas and staying at the Boardwalk. The weather has been 70 yesterday and 72 today in the Northeast, highly unusual, snow on Friday.
Irene I had my upper eye lids done in September, my lower in January. I am pleased with my surgeon, he is the head of eye lid surgery in Boston, Ma. Dr. Glavas. Hope you get it done! You can PM me if you have any questions.
Had to take my car to the shop for a tuneup. First one in 116,000 miles, it's been a great car. Hoping for a reasonable total. Finally got some decent rain today instead of drizzle. We needed it.
Right now, I would love to have warmer weather it is only 30 outside now, which is the high for today. I am sitting here looking over new things to do, Ive even looked into new MSC today. It seems the regular shops I have been doing are being relocated or deleted from the ones I am part of.
I am also looking into new purchases for the new place we moved into in Nov. I have put it off for some time, now. Shopping Amazon, for stuff for a birthday party and gifts for an 8 year old boy, which does not need everything and had not decided what kind of cake he wants. Oh and I am making mac and cheese for lunch.
So sorry to hear :-(

Sad about pets. Good luck with eyes.

Taking one housemate to a clinic on my way to a shop. Then groceries and planning a BIG hotel shop 5 hours away for early next week. This means reorganizing several days of plans but looks well worth it. The hotel looks fantastic and has lodging and dining reviews to match, plus a very nice bonus. The weather is supposed to be very nice so a drive through a very scenic area and a 5 star meal (well, almost, lol) really appeals to me. With plenty of time after checkout (for a change) I will actually be able to relax more than usual on this trip.

Shopping for a gift for my daughters upcoming B-day....she's a fussy one so will get ideas today. Looking for a hotel need a getaway, haven't seen any in Vegas. I have been watching the horrific Fl. school shootings and so devastated by our country's lack of gun control. ...just like Berkeley in the 60's (Vietnam war), the youth is taking over and I see change coming...was brutal hearing the parents and students talk about their loss on a very personal level.( Laundry, cooking and so on.....

Husband and I are sitting three Lab dogs for my daughter. No shopping this week. Home tonight!
Very relaxing day. This is good. For the next few days, there will be an overabundance of work. Later, I will appreciate the payments. In the meantime, I will enjoy Red Green, sort stuff, and do only the gentle workouts.

I used to have a cat that was diabetic. The vet said to give him his shot while he was eating so he wouldn't notice. It started out good. Then he got wise and started to go around his food dish in a circle out of my reach. It was hilarious to see because his face never left the dish but his body would circle around the dish to avoid me.

I have had recent success with the 2 cats I have now by giving pills in Greenies pill pockets. They come in different flavors but mine like chicken. In case you are not familiar with them, this is a link that describes them (from Petsmart)

Or this might work:

How to give a cat a pill:

1.Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2.Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3.Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4.Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5.Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

6.Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

7.Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8.Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil, and blow down drinking straw.

9.Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10.Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard, and close door onto neck, to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11.Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of Scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw T-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12.Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil-wrap.

13.Tie the little @!!@#@#$%'s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak filet. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

14.Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and remove pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

Sounds about right!

Been there, done that with trying to give cats pills. OTOH, I had a dog who was on pills for years. It didn't take long before I no longer had to hide the pill in food. She would take the pill, swallow it and then take her treat. Instead of calling out "treat," all I had to do was shake the pill bottle and she would come running.

They are sneaky little things. And what a strong will. But then they do something cute or cuddle up to you and all is forgiven. Yes, my 2 cats are in charge.

Yes, I have a 3/4 inch slice on my thumb from trying to pill a cat. Usually, when they bite it's just straight down onto a finger or arm or whatever they can get ahold of. This time it was along the length of my thumb. Now I actually know what rendering flesh means.
I don't recall trying this on bites, but when you get scratched hydrogen peroxide is your best friend.

Tea tree oil works well too.

I had never heard of tea tree oil back then. Hydrogen peroxide is cheap and readily available. If I didn't use it the scratch would get infected every time. Same thing with paper cuts for some reason. Peroxide cleans them out and kills any bacteria.

Today was spent running around in nice cold weather. Home making a soup, watching Law and order , doing laundry and being lazy...still haven't heard about the March hotel job...still pending.

Tired. But all jobs and one report are finished. I did not have a chance to get the uber cream that LisaSTL mentioned, but I slathered on every emollient I could find and went to work anyway. As long as I am awake, I will work on house projects for the next few days. I promise nothing.
