What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Mum, I live in Ohio and Wisconsin is generally much colder than here...we are expecting a cold front to move in tomorrow and there will be record low temperatures (30 degrees) tomorrow night and a chance of snow...glad you get to go at a better time.

Peg, I am excited for your day-trip, I hope it's lovely smiling smiley

Today I got out of bed around 9, drank coffee, cleaned the kitchen, made breakfast, and now I am going to shower and get back into a fresh pair of pajamas hahahahaha!

@JASFLALMT. I am in IL and for some time the weather has been playing tricks with us. One day, it's incredibly hot and the other day it's too cold to even take a walk. We have friends in Cincinnati since my husband used to work for GE in Cincinnati before we got married. They were telling me the same thing yesterday about how Wisconsin is colder than Ohio.

Oh, ok. Yes, we get your weather a day or two later. Same wacky weather here, ranging from 40s-70s and that can even happen on the same day! I am up in NE Ohio close to Lake Erie.

I went on a hike today with my friend. I was concerned about wet leaves and hills but things went very well. Other than that, I watched my outside plants like boiling water.

I opened my Bota Box red and it was delicious!

There's a post office less than a mile away that we walk past all the time, but for exercise and grins today Hubby and I rode our bikes to one that was about four miles from the house so he could drop off some business correspondence.

It was cold and damp so I played with my new instant pot instead of mowing. It made perfect brown rice, which I love but never make because I'm not good at it. Then I cleaned out under the sink. Soon Ann will wake up and we'll watch TV and have dinner.

My rice cooker was on its last leg when I was gifted with an Instant Pot. Made one batch of brown rice in it, and tossed the ricer cooker out.

Nah I hate garage sales. And it's a cheap rice cooker I bought at least 12 years ago at Walgreens. I would have to pay someone to take it. tongue sticking out smiley

I have an Instant Pot and I love it. Will never make beef stew any other way again. I have been warned not to use the slow cooker function on it as a regular slow cooker will do much better. Something about the metal pot of the Instant Pot as opposed to the crock of the slow cooker. Split Pea soup is literally instantly if you compare it to the time it takes to soak the peas and cook the soup on the stove. You don't have to soak the peas for the Instant Pot.

I was gifted with a small, rather inexpensive rice cooker and love it. I make a batch of yellow rice about once a month and then freeze portions that are about 2 meal sizes. The cooker is small enough that it can live one the narrow shelf that fits between the counter top and the base of the wall cabinets. My mini-food processor also lives there. The "shelves" are actually just coated wire rack, such as those used inside cabinets to permit two-tiered storage areas. Below those raised shelves I have square, clear plastic tubs with teabags, coffee, etc. That area makes good use of a part of the counter that is not really needed for prep area.

No Instant Pot, since I like the slow cooker results so well.

I have one of those immersion blenders that came with attachments. One of them is a mini food processor. The container is just big enough to fit an onion and some celery - enough to blend with 3 pounds of ground turkey to make turkey sage meatloaf. Love when an appliance has multiple purposes.

I'm jealous of all you guys whos stuff rusts and at some point is done. I buy cheap crap and it lasts forever. I buy nice stuff and have problems. That old beat up rice cooker that cost $10 is still going strong and no rust at all. It makes good rice , but not brown rice. I like to buy new things once in awhile and it's much harder to justify if the old things still work.

I have a lot of space to store stuff. My stuff doesn't rust or break. I have a Fry Daddy I haven't used in 10 years probably and pretty sure I will never use it again. As soon as Goodwill starts taking donations again, I will be clearing out a few unused items to donate.

Goodwill has been accepting donations all through the shut down. It was the store itself that has been closed. Ours opened a few of their locations and I grabbed my son to get there promptly as he is still furnishing his house. We did about a hundred bucks in 'damage' as he got a really nice side table, bedside table for the guest room, night light for the bedside table, several paintings, a couple of chairs and some nice kitchen equipment. The knowledge that folks were using this time to clear out 'things' to Goodwill got us there before stuff got too banged around by customers. I was astonished that almost half a long shelf was devoted to toaster ovens packed two high.

I volunteered at the food bank this morning. It was outside again and had a drive thru format. I manned the frozen food station.

Tomorrow, I volunteer at the farmer's market.

Work. Watch Jack Irish. Repair wind-blown porch (winds broke pottery and blew chairs into yard). By default, or per decree of nature, today is the day to do the porch plants. I still do not know if we will use seeds or small plants, but we will have something living out there and uplifting the space.

@HonnyBrown: food banks here predict a shortage in late summer or early fall. Yikes. Good for you to help out with that in your area! smiling smiley

I believe each area's Goodwill stores are independently managed. Ours were all completely closed, but are starting to reopen. The only donations they will take are things that can be put into a box, which they will seal up for several days before bringing into the store. The vast majority of items I need to get rid of are furniture, so that won't work for me.

On my last visit to a Goodwill in another city, the employees expressed that they were doing everything in their power to have their store closed. They wanted to stay home! Mind you they were following all protocols and not sabotaging. They were just trying to persuade. Shortly after that, the stores around the state were closed. I don't know if the employees can get credit for having an impact, but I appreciate that they took the initiative and tried something. Eventually, we will see each other again. Until then, my local store is accepting donations. I do not know what the other stores in the state are doing about that.

Yes, they are. It allows them to be more responsive to the needs of different geographic areas. The local group was advertising heavily during the shut down that they were hiring for their donation centers. After doing some cleaning around here I had boxes of stuff for Goodwill. There was a line of about 10 cars ahead of me--pop the trunk, they take out the boxes and leave a dated receipt in the trunk for taxes. No close personal contact and enough staff I was in and out in only a few minutes.

Cooling down this week from 97% to a comfortable 80ish, will lie out a bit, walk, have lunch with a gentleman I recently met (nice), ordering pizza and getting to know one another
