My Samsung Galaxy 5 phone will not charge. Is it dead?
It sounds like a battery. Call Verizon and ask them. They could give you your options over the phone.

Can you get it to shut off completely and then try to turn it back on, instead of just re-starting??? How old is the phone?? I ask because I just had my inexpensive Nokia 3.1 C, that I had for only one year, suddenly quit charging unless I put a weight on the USB cord in just the right position. Drove me crazy. Seems like the USB port inside had something happen to it, and it would not charge unless I did that. But, since it's an inexpensive phone, and it was unlocked, I just found another one on eBay and got it and put the SIM card inside. I like the phone, so I was able to work around it that way. If it's your USB port, I'm not sure it's worth fixing, unless it's under some sort of warranty. Hope you get it figured out!!!
wales, look at the back of the phone. Is your battery swollen? You can get that replaced. The port is a different story.

Thank you, all. I have an appointment at a youbreakifix today. They are certified for Samsung repairs. Every day without a smartphone costs $$$. AND, I love this phone, in spite of irritation with the apps that cannot be deleted.

The charging port is damaged but can easily be replaced once the part arrives in a few days. Charming techie told me it wasn't anything I did, the little metal prongs in that interface just go limp with metal fatigue, or some such thing, as phones age. They are throwing in a new battery at no charge although their analysis showed that mine was "amazing for its age."

As much as the phones cost, I think they should exceed 2 or 3 years. The batteries on my last 3 Samsungs swelled and heated up after regular use. I am hoping that LG will be different.

My phone is 10 years old and the battery is not the problem. They are providing a new battery more to anticipate later weakening, but it was not swelled.

Yep, the Galaxy S5 is a very reliable phone! I gave mine to my Dad when I upgraded. He stopped using it last year when it slipped into the underbelly of his car. That was also the last Samsung that I could choose to avoid traffic circles in Google Maps.

Oooooh. So now we know why you hate to drive in DC, Honny. I also think that this is a genuine phobia that deserves the same respect that we give for folks who fear heights (Like me). I will tolerate being exposed to my fear, by taking a gondola ride to the top of the highest peak in Germany, but decline to be exposed to very high places without anticipation of a very rewarding experience. Tooling around Dupont Circle probably would not be sufficient compensation if I shared you aversion, Honny.

wales when I worked in DC, I always took the metro. I also walked to my after work activities. Luckily, I never had the displeasure of trying to navigate traffic circles.
The next town over from me has a pretty good shopping center. It also has 4 traffic circles. Four! Who does that?

I have an old note 4 that I had to get a new Battery for it had swollen up and I was afraid that I had lost everything but nope new battery and it was as good as new. The only thing is it is CDMA and I cant use it on a GSM network like AT&T, T-Mobile, Wrong freq for US Celluar, Verizon. So I use it as a clock and for cat videos.
