Go me. I just found 'The Madame Blanc Mysteries' on Acorn TV. So far, so good.

'Hustling' (1975) is based on Gail Sheehy's well researched book of the same name. The book was released on January 1, 1973 and, according to Amazon, is out of print. I might have to hustle in order to get a used copy of the book.

Netflix has a new series called, "The Girl in the House...." It was very good for a lazy Saturday.

Watched 'Agatha Raisin Kissing Christmas Goodbye' and enjoyed the weave of history, change, and the fact that this is the first episode in Season 4. The rest of the series will be available to me next Monday. This episode was dedicated to M. C. Beaton, who wrote the Agatha Raisin books and died in 2019. The author also wrote the Hamish MacBeth series, in which Robert Carlyle stars as the determinedly rural investigator who left city life behind-- except for the crime, which is everywhere... I strongly recommend both series for reading and watching.

Going to give this a try. "In the Dark" series on Netflix that we finally finished was sooooo good.

The 2015 miniseries version of 'And Then There Were None' is a good remake of a good oldie.

1. John Williams recently turned 90 !ninety!) and was celebrated all day in classical and other musical modes. We could choose a movie theme-- those with John Williams musical scores.

2. Someone skated to Bolero at the Olympics. Jonathan Jensen gives us lyrics... bwahaha! grinning smiley

I was not able to watch Australian Survivor on Paramount Plus so I cancelled it. Yesterday I watched Amazon Prime video.... Robert Redford in "All is Lost." It's a good movie. smiling smiley
I watched a documentary on Netflix called "The Tinder Swindler." It told the story of a con artist who met women on Tinder. This one women kept giving him money even after she found out who he was.

I started watching "Inventing Anna." It is quite unbelievable that she was able to deceive US banks. My progression with watching the series is painfully slow as time is scarce. Once I am done it's on to the swindler.

"Inventing Anna" is on my watch list. I followed her in the news for a bit. I love seeing scammers brought to justice.

Inventing Anna was good. A scammer with no remorse. I'm watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV right now.
The 1978 Death on the Nile has a common theme for romance scams. The hook: Rich and beautiful one can only inherit their vast fortune when they marry. [Even today, this might be an enforced will condition. Yikes. !] It leads to a romance scam and possibly to other scams.

I have not seen the recently re-made and released 2022 version of that movie, and I cannot compare it to the previous versions and the book behind all of them.

Not quite a movie, but a fantastic bit of news to watch. (As you know, we are adjusting where things are in order to be compliant with egress rules/regs/practicalities. On the way to this point, we saw an apartment that has large ficus, or something, blocking a window. Hubby wondered: does that person have to get rid of their beloved plants? I said, "I dunno" and did a little research.) I found out that because they are full-time in a wheelchair, they will never climb out of the windows where they live. They can probably keep their plants by windows because what is egress for us is not egress for them. Beyond that, I questioned how they would cope in an emergency. Exiting via one door leads to concrete, ramps, and other presumably supportive conditions for a wheelchair. Exiting via the other door leads to a hill that is grassy for a few months but snowy for the rest of the year. How would their wheelchair perform in an emergency and snow? As it turns out, someone has created a device for wheelchairs that provides a snow-plow/traction/maneuverability effect for the wheelchairs. So now you know. Other people have thought of these things, too, and they have taken steps to provide relief and safely. In addition to websites specifically for people in wheelchairs, I found the news blurb online. Anyone who is interested but leery of following links to outside websites can find out more by searching for how wheelchairs perform in show and on hills. I feel better now, having seen proof that the person might survive an emergency in any condition.

"Inventing Ana" is good. She stole from everyone around her with no repercussion.

Vexed. Just a few episodes about a couple of detective inspectors who try to learn to be partners while trying to solve crimes. Big change between seasons when two performers left the show and were replaced by another side plot. It is the right length for the end of a back intensive day when I just need to watch something between episodes of back intensive work.

The Tinder Swindler is a good watch. I can't believe he spent just 5 months in jail while those women are saddled with massive debt. It rankles me that he ruined so many lives and got to walk away. Maybe a suitable target for Anonymous once they are done with Russia!!
Just found Aftertaste. At first, I though an alternative headline could have been 'Incoming!' but then the story unfolded and all silliness was forgotten...

Yes, it was eye opening! I'm happy that one victim sold his designer clothes. I don't understand that woman who kept giving him money even after she found out he was a scammer. She deserves her debt.

I do not do Netflix and I have not seen the Anna thing. However, I have a hubby who is in a similar trap. He continues to believe the nonsense. He becomes wildly angry when it is pointed out that the endless sob stories are not likely or, in some cases, possibly true. He adamantly denies that anything could be amiss with giving away his money instead of paying his portion of rent, and he blames everyone else for the problem. He even calls everyone else mean and wicked because they are letting these scammers starve. He seems to have been brainwashed. How did that happen? The scammers are extremely skilled and they are not wired to give a damn about anyone except themselves. Is it like a cult? I dunno. It is definitely a pita. Someone mentioned addiction. As far as I know, hubby has not been given money, sex, drugs, or other common drugs of choice. He is just told more and more and more and endless stories and is promised vast sums of money which never materialize. Is he addicted to the proverbial carrot, the promise of what will never be fulfilled?

These people lack empathy. All primates exhibit this trait. Evolution kept it around so it must be useful. I wonder if it has a genetic basis and these sociopaths are missing the codes for it.
I finished Inventing Anna. Boring ending but fascinating persona. I also watched the Swindler. Can't believe he is free wheeling. Horrible person but fascinating persona as well. He and Anna together? Some people just want to be loved by someone. Sad when it skews your judgement and better sense. I wonder if those scammed women, men, etc. might have benefitted from speaking to someone close and trustworthy.
Binge-watched Vicious in between sessions of sorting and re-arranging stuff. *Freddie to Stewart: We are being married by a woman? Isn't that just a bit non-traditional?*

Just beginning to watch Cadfael.

This has been going on for years. How is he sustaining this? Scammers take more and more until nothing is left.

He and Anna wouldn't work. He would put her up in a hotel on someone else's dime, but she wouldn't fork over any cash. How could she?
