Second to None, like other MSCs, is very clear that if they need clarification, you must respond within a certain timeframe. STN gives you 12 hours. All their shop instructions clearly state that you must be available to answer clarification requests after a shop. It's also listed on their FAQ page.
I'm sorry your shops was rejected and you didn't receive payment. Hopefully you don't give up on mystery shopping completely; next time, you can read the MSC's policies and guidelines ahead of time so you know what to expect.
