BEWARE OF MERCANTILE SYSTEMS .offering shops at a $0 pay for a hotel shop.

The more I think about it the more I must conclude I'm going to have a tough time trusting the word of anyone who mystery shops who claims they dont like shopping. We all like shopping.

I agree Shelly. Many of us also enjoy the interactions and improving customer service.
This Board is a Great Place to learn and interact with others.
Everyone knows the owner. As far as who Moderates, Jacob selects Mods and no one has the "Right" to know who and why.

By the way, there are two other very active MS-related forums and neither of them reveals the names of moderators.

Jacob has elected to be the one who gets the brunt of any ire that might otherwise accrue to named moderators. He is also the person who can, and will, rein in a moderator who may be out of line, I am sure. I suggest that if anyone feels that they have been unfairly moderated, they apply to Jacob for an explanation.

And, I might add, this forum is very lightly moderated. Take a look sometime at the half-life of any post even faintly questioning the way things are run on another MS board that I will not name. There they use the Alice in Wonderland Method, aka "Off with their heads," at the drop of a hat. No pun intended becasue the results are anything BUT funny.

I would like to add that I definitely do NOT like to shop so FREELANCE should probably disregard everything I say.

I enjoy having input on the customer experience. I do not consider myself poor. I have somewhat grand tastes (beyond my means) as far as dining and travel goes, so I use MSing to upgrade my lifestyle.

I have a shop today and I realized that I never bothered to even ask what it pays. It includes 3 meals and night at a 5-star resort with no reporting on the hotel, so I accepted it based on the reimbursement. If I make enough to pay for my gas to/from the resort, that will be icing on the cake.
I'm certain the forum owner has everything set up as he sees best. He provides us with this very useful forum absolutely free and I say, "Thanks, Jacob." To all those who pitch in and help Jacob, thanks to you, also.

Don't like shopping. Not poor. Do need income to enjoy life.
I mystery shop to earn money on a flexible schedule as I have some serious family concerns right now. MS gives me the ability to earn money whether at home or at family's home.
If I were poor, I would have to get a job and that would limit my ability to help my family right now.

My understanding is that Jacob receives income from the advertising here so our participation in this forum benefits him. He, in turn, tries to better the forum to increase participation.

I believe it's more of a symbiotic relationship than a thankless and benevolent offering.
Wow, y'all are acting like I insulted your mother or something. I just have an opinion that's different that yours and was trying to explain why. Why does that make me the bad guy?

I agree, MrC, having lived in Alabama as well as Texas, Maryland, California, Louisiana, Tennessee, Missouri, and Utah, that Alabamians (sp?) are very civilized. I have met many true Southern gentlemen from Alabama, and you are definitely a true Southern gentleman.

Whether moderators are identified or not, it is fortunate for some that our forum is so lightly moderated. It allows many posts to remain that would be moderated on a different kind of forum.
Of course Jacob gets something out of the forum. Otherwise, he couldn't spend time on it. Nevertheless, to me it's free. I hope he benefits when I post, because I benefit when I read.

bgriffin, I don't have an issue with your having a different opinion. I just happen to have one of my own which is not the same as yours. I'm not a bad guy, either.

I was told to adjust my thinking, spend more time applying for MSC's and less time complaining, and to take it up with Jacob if I have a problem. All because I simply am surprised that the users of this forum are ok with anonymous moderation.

OK. You seem to have a problem getting over it. If you have a problem with anonymous moderation, deal with it...

That's true, AustinMom. I have posted on both overly moderated boards and under moderated boards. I much prefer this type of forum. Board Nannies and Post Police suck the life and vitality out of a board. Posters leave in droves ...

All these mystery shoppers who dont like to shop and will not admit they are poor. Bet you guys are just loads of fun at a party too!
I don't like to shop. I'm not sure how to define poor. If you mean not really rich, then I'm definitely poor. If poor is in debt to the eyeballs and can't buy groceries, then I'm not poor. If rich is owning your own place and everything in it and on it outright with no debt then I'm rich (and it's about time). If poor is being careful with money then I'm extremely poor. If rich is not working when I'm in the mood, I'm rich. If poor is feeling like you might possibly outlive your nest egg, then I might be poor but probably not; that's a maybe, who knows the answer to that one.

If rich is being able to help somebody out now and then, I'm rich. If poor means that family pitched in and paid my propane bill last year because they had extra money and wanted to, then I'm poor, but that kind of family makes me rich, doesn't it? If still working when I'm 75 is poor, then I'm really, really poor and that's not likely to get any better because I don't thrive in a rocking chair. If buying bread at the day old store or making it from scratch myself because I refuse to pay $4.00 for a loaf of bread means I'm poor, then I'm your woman, for sure. If rich is being contented, then I've got rich knocked in the head. Tell me, am I rich or poor?

Great answer, MDavisnowell! But the best way to stop this ridiculous thread gone awry is to ignore the trolls.

Can't one of the super secret spy moderators close this topic?

Well said MDavisnowell, enjoyed that.

Mary, you are the best.....can't wait to read your book!!!

Live consciously....
Freelance is it even possible for you to be any more obtuse? First you don't understand the play on words in Shop2Live's name and then you have this insane notion that we are all poor and/or just love shopping.

For me this is simply a business. I have had jobs I loved and jobs I hated. This falls somewhere in the middle, but no, I am not the type of person who would spend a day off wandering around a shopping mall or visiting apartments in order to get decorating ideas. There are no mansions or Jaguars in my near future from mystery shopping, but it is safe to say my earnings, both yearly and hourly, would compare favorably with many who have to work full-time. This is the fourth business I have run successfully and the second of my own. Being business savvy is much more important if a MSer wants to come close to making a living.

BTW, regardless of which name you choose to go by, the song is always the same. If you so despise all of us, the question is why you continue to come back?

And to the subject of moderation, there is so little of it here. What is the big deal if a moderator deletes a client or MSC name or a spam posting? For that you feel an undying need to know who they are? My fingers often engage before my brain and if I made a boo boo and mentioned a name it would not bother me to have it removed nor would I care who did it.

I'm really kind of scared to reply to this for fear that mrcomputer will @#$%& at ME for not being the one to let this go, but as I've stated already, it's not the anonymous moderation that really gets me (I don't like it but it's not a big deal), it's the way the users on this forum so vehemently support it that I find so shocking.
