Vehemently support it? I for one just do not understand why you are so vehemently opposed to it. I might feel differently if the moderators were going way beyond the simplest of things, but that does not appear to be the case. So I do not vehemently anything, I just don't really care one way or the other. If a post of mine was moderated and in my mind it was unfair, I would simply contact Jacob with my concerns. Meanwhile, my understanding is moderators are unpaid volunteers who are also mystery shoppers. Personally, if I was helping out there is no way I would want my time wasted with a bunch of PMs from people who don't understand why the name of client was removed or why their spam post was deleted. I've received PMs from spam artists simply for publicly marking their post as spam. Our opposing feelings may have to do with how much or how little power we perceive the moderators to possess.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

You were not one of the ones I was referring to. I understand an attitude of "there's not a lot of moderation here so it doesn't really bother me" completely. What I didn't understand is the attitudes of I should just deal with it or leave, or I need to adjust my thinking, or I should just get over it. All totally blowing the whole thing out of proportion because I dared to think if it were up to me something would be done differently. That's the attitude that confused me, because while I totally get someone thinking moderators shouldn't be anonymous, and I totally get someone not thinking it's a big deal at all, I can't comprehend the how dare you question anonymous moderation attitude I got from some people.

So, bgriffin, why don't you just end it now? Be the bigger person and just end it. We get enough negativity from a poor and starving non-staff wannabe writer.

I don't think you know any people with money. People with money will drive their 30 year old Volvos to the Arches for a free lunch and invest their $10 fees in international index fund arbitrages. Meanwhile, the posers who want to look like people who have money dine at Morton's Steak House, buy a new BMW every three years, end up broke and wonder what the hell happened.

The last person that was insisting to me they were not poor mentioned a couple posts later that the family had paid the propane bill! Don't you go digging yourself in deeper too. Nobody paid my power bill or heating bill and I dont get guberment checks but that does not cover the fact that I mystery shop McDonalds for 15 0r 20 dollars and a full belly and that makes me poor. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck oh forget it lets just say good luck in selling your story of being a big shot business woman making the big dough mystery shopping. Well Im wrong again now that I think about it cause you can get those big dough pretzels by mystery shopping Auntie Anne's.
That was the first thing I noticed too lol

FREELANCE, You don't seem to understand that not everyone shops for the money.

I added around $65k in reimbursements to my take home last year. That and a job that pays me well allow me to have top-tier status with airlines and hotels, never pay for vacations, and never have to eat at McD's...ever!
Hi Freelance. We're not on the same page about the propane bill. I didn't need help; it was a gift and I was touched and humbled by their generous gesture.

You're probably not old enough for the government check I get. The one I get comes when we're elderly if we've worked and paid in money to make that check possible. It's not a freebie; please don't be jealous I get it. Your parents and grandparents get it too, if they're elderly, if they're still living, if they worked and paid in money to make that check possible.

I realize there are many who are among the working poor. Perhaps you are not so much poor as in a situation where you aren't able to meet your expectations right now, but classifying all mystery shoppers as poor is as wrong as classifying all fat people as rich.

Entry into mystery shopping is relatively easy, but the work does require some electronics, and unless you're working a downtown area with public transit will require a vehicle. Poor people do not have electronics and vehicles. If you were ever in fact poor at any time in your life, you have managed to pull yourself up and I congratulate you.

Wow, I just figured out I am poor. As a Christmas gift last year, my sister and brother in law put a credit on my propane account. If I had any idea this was going to make me poor, I would have insisted they take it back.

I wish I would have known the rules about what makes a person poor ahead of time! Oh well, nothing can be done now.
The last time my sister and brother in law gave me anything was 10 years ago when they gave me for my birthday some old freezer burned steaks out of their deep freeze! Even the cat and my leeching friends wouldnt eat that steak. In this world theres givers and theres takers and in my family even though I am poor Im the only giver.
What a Sob Story. You are bring tears to my eyes. Not!...:p

Maybe your brother and sister in law thought they were giving you something you needed and would appreciate. They thought the steaks were in good condition or they would not have given them to you. Why would you not give them the benefit of the doubt? If they hadn't cared for you, they wouldn't have given you anything. They would have ignored your birthday. If you haven't received any acknowledgement from them for the last ten birthdays, perhaps you should rethink the way you treat them. Why do you have leeching friends? What goes around comes around. I heard that from my brother, the one who paid for the propane.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but I know for a fact that unknown moderators derive benefits from their work, paid or unpaid. They write books, have radio shows, and work in all kinds of ways in the MS business networks.

Face it, MS shoppers are the bottom of the business, and we are kept under control, basically for convenience, stability, and monetary reasons, by a veil of uncertainty.

MarySmith,
Where did you get these dilusions of the grandeur of moderators?

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I've two radically different opinions of Mary Smith's post:

Mary states--I'm not trying to argue with you, but I know for a fact that unknown moderators derive benefits from their work, paid or unpaid. They write books, have radio shows, and work in all kinds of ways in the MS business networks.

BOB'S comment--I don't know this isn't accurate, but I doubt it regularly occurs.

Mary states--MS shoppers are the bottom of the business, and we are kept under control, basically for convenience, stability, and monetary reasons, by a veil of uncertainty.

BOB'S comment--Predicated upon a decade + in this business, I agree there is validity to this opinion; I don't criticize MSCs for this action though, as this IS business and were I in their shoes I would "walk the same walk."
Mary also states elsewhere that schedulers of opposing MSCs track each other's job boards and avoid offering bonuses that can be coordinated.

I think she's giving MSCs and moderators a bit too much credit for organizing a united effort to keep shoppers down....
Please give us the names of the moderators who write books and have radio shows. I'd love to read and listen, and I'm missing out.

Are you the snottiest person on here? See, we can both throw childish insults. I wasn't being whiny, I was seriously curious since moderators are supposed to be anonymous and MD appeared to be saying they're a moderator and are not getting those benefits.
