Possible phishing scam involving GFK via Email

Got an email saying they paid me by error via Pay Pal and said they are from GFK with the name of a person who works there. when I called the actual GFK phone the person's name was Jasmine on the GFK 800 # in the list of extensions but the email had a different first name of Carey. The last names were the same. I checked my Pay Pal account to alert Pay Pal if this had occurred, and no payment was made anyway from them since months back. The email instructed me to refund the payment I got from them.

It was an error and it won't let me delete one of them.
I left a message and got no return call. I never received any double payment from them. The phone in the email was 609 480 9557. I did not call that number, I called their 800#.
I received the email too. I was pretty quick to think it was legit, and then thought even if legit, it was a curious way to resolve an alleged accounting error. Did you ever get a resolution?
The employee is Carey Medina, not Callie.

This would not be the first time GFK had an accounting error resulting in duplicate or over payment. I really don't understand how it could be a scam unless the email was requesting the money be sent to a different account. If it is the same as the time it happened to me, I just needed to reverse the payment through PayPal directly back to GFK.
