Bare and Lost in Mail checks

Has anyone had a check that was sent by Bare not arrive at their house? If so what happened? I have a check lost in the mail- they claim they sent it- never arrived- I am told I need to wait 6 months to have it reissued IF it is not cashed. I never got it so not sure what I am waiting for???

In 6 months, the lost check will become invalid and cannot be cashed. They are doing this because they do not want to spend $20 or so to stop payment on the lost check in order to issue you a new one.
I have never had issues with payment from Bare though I have had checks lost/stolen in the mail from several MSCs where I feel confident they sent them out and every time from one particular MSC that I think only sends out checks marked something like 'Reissued Check' a month or so after I complain I have not received payment.

Most MSCs have realized that payment can be more efficiently sent and received if they use Paypal or direct deposit. Sign up for direct deposit whenever it is available as you will have your payment quicker and more reliably.
I had a check from a November shop that was lost in the mail. Bare said the same thing: either pay the stop check fee to have it reissued immediately, or wait 6 months to have the check in the entire amount reissued.

It turns out, the issue was with the post office. The check made it to my mailbox in January.

Bare offers direct deposit. I've used it for years and it works great. I urge you to sign up for the direct deposit today. I sure direct deposit with any MSC that offers it. I'm also okay with PayPal. I prefer not to wait for checks and worry that they may be lost or stolen in the mail.

Issues may be with the Post Office or with a thief or with a neighbor. I live where there is a row of mailboxes at the end of the road. Sometimes mail for others gets mixed in with my mail and sometimes my mail gets mixed in with the mail of others. When I empty my box I frequently need to 'redistribute the mail' to other boxes. After the death of a neighbor several years ago his daughter-in-law was clearing up the house and brought me a stack of my mail that was by then more than a year old. Nothing had been opened and I feel sure my neighbor intended to bring it by the house but forgot to do so. That stack of mail included bills, flyers and a couple of checks.
With Honny, it's definitely the post office, LOL. I was at the PO mailing something to Honny (I forgot to tell her about it) and it didn't come up in the computer as a known address. I really thought they had fixed that. Let me know if you get it, Honny.

I hate getting paper checks in the mail. I prefer DD whenever possible and PayPal as a secondary option.
I don't have an option to do direct deposit with Bare as my bank is a small one and the checks are over a certain amount... I had the lost in the mail happen one time, and because of the amount (over $4K) I chose to pay the stop payment to get another one issued. Of course once that happened the original "lost" one showed up one week later - so as it turned out the issue was with the post office for me as well.
Like (there is no "like" button on my screen). I did receive the package, thanks!

Right around the time this happened, Bare started offering direct deposit.

This must be an old story if it's from when Bare started offering direct deposit.

And I think that any bank can accept direct deposit. You just need the account and routing info. I'd be surprised if this were not the case.
The story is not old. Yes, Bare has been offering direct deposit for many years but smaller banks and credit unions tended to be slow in getting it set up and restrict the size of direct deposits as well as the size of remote deposits and ACH transfers. I was interested when my son recently sold his home that both his credit union and the bank associated with his brokerage account could accept the net proceeds as a wire transfer or a cashier's check but not as a direct deposit. The credit union said something about putting a 5 day hold on a cashier's check . . .
Informed Delivery is only a year or so old in my area but yes, it is quite useful. I find there are many glitches in the system, but it is better than nothing.
Hello. I actually had this happen to me. It was definitely frustrating but it was corrected promptly and professionally by Bare. I didn't have to wait 6 months. I believe it was 30 days or less. This waiting period is due strictly for the fact that Bare is protecting you (and me) and themselves from fraud. Trust me, they are an excellent Company to contract with and will make it right.
This is an excellent option and suggestion!! I use informed delivery as well and love it! Kudos to you!
I must've missed the direct deposit email as I'm still getting paper checks from them. Thanks for the info. I'll be switching promptly.
I found out they offered direct deposit when I had the issue with the check last year.

Yes, actually, I'm going through exactly the same thing! I want to know why it was mailed because according to them, starting in July 2019 they were only going to pay by direct deposit, of course, I'm still waiting for the answer or January 2020 whichever comes first when it can be reissued without paying the $30 for another one sooner. Now I want to know what they're going to try and pull with my bonus that wasn't included in the ”lost” check. I couldn't even get an exact address so I could report it to USPS all I got was that it came from Virginia. I told them that I wasn't doing any other shops until I got my bonus and a couple of shops due in my bank account via direct deposit. Of course, no answer from them or money in my bank.
I had a lost check with Bare in July. I marked it as paid in my personal database because it was the same amount as another Bare shop for which I thought I was paid and the check I did receive did not show the shop it was for. I went round and round with a scheduler who was adamant that I was paid the July shop. It turns out that I was paid for an August shop and the July shop was, in fact, not paid. The finance manager, Jason Seale, called me, issued a stop payment, and re-issued the check. I had it three days later and paid no stop check fee. He urged me to sign up for direct deposit but I can't find where to do it. He copied me on an email to the office manager, Misty Kakefolas. to help me fix this problem but, alas, she has not responded. Bottom line: Bare made good on it in the end with no argument.
I believe it’s in your profile or extended profile. Misty was the person I had been talking to she was no help and just stopped answering my emails, which is just as well because all she kept repeating was to signup for direct deposit and I was from day one. I had a couple of shops pending and my bonus check from the “lost” check. They paid me for my shops via direct deposit but my bonus was sent via snail mail in a paper check! All on the same day! How crazy is that?! I emailed Misty once again asking why in the world would they do that if one check was already “lost” they can obviously direct deposit my money and of course no answer from her. The check FINALLY appeared and I just cashed it a couple of days ago.
Is it possible on their site to determine whether a job has been paid or not? It seems odd to me that I can't find any payment information. Sorry if it has already been addressed.

Thanks.
