When the USPS Changes from *Company X* to *Company Y*....

I sent mine to the old food bank. I called and asked them if it would be ok and they said yes.

I emailed the scheduler about reimbursement. It will be on the check with the pay, they had a glitch but are fixing it now.

Another alternative for boxes is to find a local box supplier and buy from them. I also have to get a bundle of 25, but the dimweight boxes are $1.15 to $1.50 for the smaller dw sizes..I think i can get 14 cubes for a buck, but don't like those as they need too much packing materials to keep the food from rolling around. I do canned goods and dry beans cuz the pasta makes noise.

.68 @ Walmart. ..just bought 20
That is good to know. I certainly have the address of the old food bank. I think I will try one and see if they complain at all. It is after all a very large box with not much in it.

68¢ for the dim weight boxes? My Walmart is close to $4 for them, when they even have them

14 x 14 x 14 = .68 + .03 (tax) = $0.71 per box ....Duck brand , not heavy weight /duty
Mine are .68 also....

wow! mine doesn't have 14 cubes generally, only 16 cube that can be cut down and they are $3 and change. I am going to ask if they can order those you guys are getting..I'd much rather shell out 68¢ than a buck and change!

wtf is "cube"? these are friggin INCHES. & the 16 inchers are .71 each @ Walmart, too.
can we quit on these box issues, already? jeesus, its ridiculous to parse all these really simple issues. do some research, get your s%$t together
14x14x14, is 14 cube, as 16x16x16 is 16 cube. It is a very common mathematical term. 14X14 is 14 square etc.

If you don't like what is being posted, ignore it. No need to yell at people and use profanity, albiet abbreviations.

H E L P !!! where are my fellow snarkers? must i really deal with this issue by myself? i truly wish i had nothing else to be concerned about other than friggin "cube" sizes. "cubes"...wtf?
Uh, I have a dim (dumb) weight question. I will be doing my first C for the new company and I noticed the rules said the "contents" should be between 2.? and 5 lbs. For the old company it was the entire box including contents. My box weighs close to a pound by itself and the shipping price for 5 vs 6 pounds is the same. I sent an email but have not heard back about this issue but if some one knows whether we can now go over 5 lbs including the box please let me know. I am shipping to my daughter and would throw in more if I can.
By the way, with the new reimbursement the 14x14x14 now works for zone 7. For zone 8 I am still using 10x12x15.
don't go above 5lbs total. the po doesn't have to measure above 5 lbs is what I was told by last msc
yah, cubes. Just because you are ignorant of the term doesn't mean it should not be used. It is how these boxes are commonly sold.

i strongly suggest you don't take ANY ADVICE from anyone...especially someone who is totally clueless. & not what the former MSC allowed or required as it's a new ballgame. contact Judith directly for guidance /advice. we've got someone who cannot figure out simple box issues giving advice = is there a somewhat better word than RIDICULOUS for that ????

Just because you think you know what your are doing does not mean this forum is not a place to solve box issues..... use the toggle button if you feel so inclined..... we are here to help others...

yep, i agree but where does the "help others" stop because people are too lazy to find out some elementary stuff themselves & want it handed to them? jeez, this is not difficult or...maybe it is. $3 for a 16 "cube" box @:Walmart? really? seriously? & then about 10 posts about friggin boxes?
BTW, the question about the box weight didn't seem that black and white to me. The old instructions were similarly vague at one time and later cleared up - I forget if they changed the instructions or the MSP clarified them or both.

It seems possible to me that someone else might have asked that question of the new schedulers and gotten an answer that could be transmitted here on the forum faster than asking the new scheduler. Maybe the answer is needed for a shop tomorrow morning.

Isn't that what many of us are here to do, ask questions, learn and share information as best we can?

Yes, I asked the question about max weight because I emailed my local person days ago and have not yet heard. I am in a different part of the country so I need to email MY person. But Brian, I do agree with you that I should not take any one else's advice on something like this. If, though, someone answered and had already found out the answer from their scheduler that would give me incentive to try to make a quick call to my local person tomorrow before I seal up my box and mail it at under 5 lbs. Onepotatotwo gives a great explanation that leads me to suspect she is right but I will still try to get an answer from the source.
I am kind of surprised you are still reading this 13 page post Brian since you are evidently fed up with it. There are many out there who have never done these shops and are asking advice from those of us who have. Things may seem evident to you now as you have been doing these but when starting out with a new shop there are lots of questions. I had them in the beginning and you most likely did too. Chill and just move on when you get bored of a thread or check once in a while and after reading the first few words of each newer post you can get the gist of it and then move quickly to the next if it bores you.

Hi all, I will ask about over 5 lbs and get back with you as soon as I hear.

While you are looking into that...Most of the plain brown boxes I can purchase have the size written on the bottom flap. That was acceptable with the other company and I was able to comment that the clerk turned the box over and saw the size printed rather than measuring. Is it okay to cover the size up with a blank sticker or should I look for boxes without the size printed? Some of them have the size in such a way that I can make that the inside flap.
I don't think this is an issue at all, whether you cover it up or not.

Trust me, because it happened to me. If the box weighs over 5 pounds, the post office does not require the clerk to measure the box. I didn't get reimbursed (or paid) by the old MSC when I switched from newly unavailable in the store box from Staples to a heavier but available box from Walmart and didn't check the total weight. I subsequently asked several clerks (when I was in post offices which are never shopped) and they confirmed that they do not have to measure the dimensions of a box if it weighs more than 5 pounds.

In my experience the last dim weight I did for the previous regime was over 5 lbs and I did get paid for it. It wasn't a whole lot over (I can't remember the specifics) but it was over and the PO did measure and I was paid.

The key words are "not required." If it weighs over 5 pounds they are not required to measure it. So it becomes a matter of chance and if they don't measure the box the clerk can not be "cited" as not performing their job correctly. If you use the "Calculate postage" portion of the post office website, it is clear that dimensional weight pricing should apply and the clerk can choose to measure the box, but what I learned was that they are "not required" to measure the box. That is why the previous MSC was so clear that the box plus contents had to weight less than 5 pounds.

All my Hazmat shops for this week were taken away from me today with no notice or explanation, anyone else have this happen?
