Five Guys

I haven’t shopped Five Guys in a couple years and don’t go there often. I just went to the one closest to my house (which I’ve never shopped) and every employee was absolutely delightful. I ordered online so they knew my name. Even after eating and as I walked out the girl cleaning the glass referred to me by name.
Then I realized, I don’t think I ever once had anything close to a negative report at a 5 Guys. They always seem happy working there. There’s got to be something in the management model that is just totally different than any other food service company.
I have to take more 5 Guys shops. They’re so easy because nothing goes wrong.

There's one MSC out there (5 guys is not a client) that if you turn in glowing report after glowing report, they imply you are not being honest! LOL. seriously - there are actually some well-run clients out there.
If it weren't for shops I would probably never have gone there. I ate there years before shopping but never felt the need to return. After shopping there, I've actually eaten there - 1x on my own dime. Same with Red Robin. I like their rewards program/discounts and the kids like the burgers.
I'd have to say that most locations do a very good to great job. But as you do more, you'll probably find some things that need to be reported. For example, they didn't make the fries properly or they didn't ask you the right things when you ordered or they didn't use correct glove handling, etc. But overall i'm very impressed with them.
Aside from one cashier that never said a word the entire time, I've never had an issue at Five Guys. Except the high prices on their food, which is why I never eat there unless I manage to get a shop for it.
I would guess 90% of my five guys reports are perfect. They really are well run.

I've shopped many many different locations and it would be highly unusual to not see something that is done incorrectly.
Perhaps you choose poorly.

Even if you're trying to be as critical as I possibly can, Five Guys ALWAYS comes through. There was one time my burger was made incorrectly, but it was properly addressed with NO complaints. Plus, my nieces love munching on the hoards of fries I have as leftovers!

Maybe but i don't know beforehand that they are not going to follow directions. I don't mind the minor infractions as long as it isn't a major health violation.
I mean, it’s seldom perfect. It’s hard to keep a bathroom spotless and sometimes they shake the fries 14 times, but from the POV of a customer, they’re top shelf in their industry.

In my opinion, Five Guys is a textbook example of what a weekly mystery shopping program can do for your business.

Then you have Chick-Fil-A, which is another textbook example of what a selected-survey only program can do for the business, without any dependency on a weekly mystery shopping program.

Is it? You can kinda scare people into doing their job correctly with an MS program, but you can't make them appear to genuinely love their job. Nearly every location I've been to has employees that seem to actually be enjoying their work.

Could it be they are incented to get the bonus for being one of the top performers?
I love my Five Guys shops! I do about 5 a month. I would also say about 90% of reports are positive. My burger was undercooked the other day, but still totally edible - it was just not to Five Guys standards. Good food, easy reports, good fees - that is my kind of shop! smiling smiley

Five Guys locations are incentived and split between the crew when a top performing location in the company.

I think it's more likely that both Five Guys and CFA have good service because they hire and train better than most of their competitors. Same can be said of In-n-Out. They just all have different ways of measuring.

I just had my first negative shop at Five Guys. The food, as always, was delicious, although the fries bordered on crispy. But it took more than double the "right" amount of time to get my order, and the place was pretty dirty. Granted, they were very busy, but even after it quieted down, they sent someone out to clean tabletops, but nobody swept the debris-laden floor or cleaned around the drink machine (the area was filthy) or wiped the spills from the condiment counter. There was a YUUUGE pile of ice on the grate in one drink machine, and nobody cleaned it out. The staff was polite, but certainly not enthusiastic or happy. Usually this location hits everything spot on, but not this time.... Normally any negatives there are really minor.

I didn't like giving the report I did, but I had to be honest.

It sucks knowing that they seemed to be just having an off day yet you still have to report it.

I enjoyed a delicious burger yesterday at a clean location that had, to my surprise, 8 lights out. First time I've ever seen even one out.

Mark Twain
I had a manager sit next to me and comment how he has to motivate his employees because of the mystery shopping program. He delivered the meal to my table, refilled my drink, gave me a bag of peanuts to take home and offered to drive me to Midas to get my car after service . You think he did this because I'm a good customer or suspects I'm a shopper?
Are you a regular customer?

When I was doing two or three, sometimes more, shops per month, I wasn't gaining weight, but my cholesterol shot off the scales. A few months after I cut back on shopping for them, it dropped an amazing amount. I was even eating the veggie sandwiches without cheese, leaving most of the fries for my family, etc. Maybe the fat and calories just infiltrate your body in a Five Guys....

I wish the hamburgler place would start up the mystery shopping again but I guess since the new Yuppie took over they just do not care.
