Five Guys listens to us. They raised their reimbursement.

I think I'm done with these until they boost the reimbursement enough that you have to order a plain hamburger, along with small fry and drink to even have a chance of staying within the reimbursement.

And wow! Five Guys is already one of the most expensive burger places out there ... do they have to keep raising the prices 2 or 3 times a year? Just ... wow!

Ask for a bonus to cover the cost of the meal.

little hamburgers, blt's, or hot dogs only for me, and of course i shop fee to make it worth it... because what i really want is a regular hamburger which hasn't been covered by reimbursement for over a year.

I hear you. Where I am, I can't get a little burger, little fry and drink and stay within the reimbursement amount. So I'll only do them if the bonus covers the overage. Luckily for me, that happens pretty frequently.

It's crazy they raised the prices but not the reimbursement. My last shop they changed the prices but had not updated their menu board yet. So I had different prices on the receipt. I reported it, but I have a feeling that is not something the MSC nor 5 Guys cares about.
yup. the prices keep going up and up. a little burger, little fries and small fountain drink are now over $13.00 for me.
I’m sitting here reading this while at 5G (not a shop) and I just looked at my receipt. Little burger, little fries, and a shake - $-13.05.
A shake is significantly more expensive than a fountain drink. Maybe the price hike isn’t across the country?

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
Prices vary sometimes from region to region. Even within the same city where I live prices can be different especially if the chain has franchises. Just yesterday I mentioned to the scheduler a price disparity in price at a different chain I shop. One location goes over the reimbursement, the other only a couple of miles away does not. It is a shame on the part of the msc when they do not reimburse even the least expensive alternative they require. I was talking to a friend who turned me on to mystery shopping but no longer shops herself the other day. I was complaining about having to go out of pocket to buy something that was a little filling at a restaurant shop. She could not figure out why I did not just go out of pocket a few dollars to get a better meal for my "free" meal. She did not work as a mystery shopper long enough (just a month or two) to realize that this is a job that requires work that should be compensated for and not a free meal or a chance for a discount no strings attached. All those msc people who call these wonderful opportunities for a fun and free meal I think have convinced themselves that fun and easy and a free meal is what these are all about.

Right on target. It is convenient for them to think that. And, whether they actually think it or not, they appear to be convinced that it is an outstanding way to market the shops. And the MSC that shops 5 Guys is only one of many MSCs that use this tactic.
I do thes shop mainly when they axcept my $50 offer on there website. This particuler shop is one of the easeist Ive ever done and the reporting is easy enough that a 8th grade drop out could do

Where I live, $11.99 will get me a little burger, little fries and regular drink. They have good tea! I can upsize to a large drink for $12.40, just barely, but still under reimbursement.
Taxes can vary quite a bit too. We are at about 8%. I believe some states are 0%. Too bad the reimbursement can’t reflect local conditions.

Shakes are usually reimbursed at a higher rate.

I believe the poster said he wasn't on a shop; just posting the total price of what he purchased, which included a shake.

Personally, I eat at McDonald's for $1.07 -- their original burger (so nostalgic! I grew up where the first McDonald's was, and ate them all through my childhood!), and a cup of ice water.

But then, I'm miserably stingy.

For $13, I could cook a meal for 4 people at home, from scratch. And it would be so much healthier and better tasting than burgers and fries!

My daughter and her hubby went to Red Robin -- $42 for burger, fries, and shakes for two adults. I asked her if it was Kobe beef!
$13.02 for hamburger, drink, and fries (all small) (-$.52 from reimbursement)
$13.80 for same, but with cheeseburger instead (-$1.30 from reimbursement)

those were my prices this weekend

If the reimbursement doesn't go up, I'll only be doing these for $10.00 or more only. I used to do some $6.00 and $8.00 ones here and there too, due to relative convenience. But, I won't anymore unless the reimbursement goes up.
Oh how I miss 5 Guys. I guess I rotated out or something because they disappeared from my job list. I love to have grilled onion, grilled mushroom and grilled bell pepper with hickory sauce on it. I guess I will have to buy my own because this thread made me crave one!

Five Guys will increase their price as the economy changes. They price their menu at 3x their raw ingredient cost. I listened to the NPR podcast How I Built This and this is their core strategy to maintain returns for the franchisees.

Depending on where in Oklahoma the store is located the Sales Tax will never be less than 4% but it could be as high as 12% to 14%.
Yes, prices have gone up here as well. I used to be able to get a cheeseburger, little fries and regular drink under the reimbursement amount, now it is .73 over. Still can get a little bacon cheese or regular hamburger and stay a few pennies under the limit though.

proudly shopping in the D.
here in denver, five guys charges $7.99 for the reg burger.. haven't gone in awhile, that's ridiculous to me.

I've actually bought their small fries a few times and a milkshake once while not on a shop. smiling smiley They're right next to a movie theater and it's convenient for a snack/meal.

I really love both and they're under $5.00 (unless they raised the shakes), so I treat them as meals. A small fries lasts me two meals.

The burgers I've never bought while not on a shop. I like them, but won't pay $5.00+ for one. A small one at that!! And adding cheese brings the small burger to over $6.00! sad smiley
Contact the company and see if you can get back on the list for 5 Guys. I was removed for over a year and am on board now. I actually do so many they call me directly with bonus to do these shops.

How often do you get the calls for Five Guys? I get them almost DAILY. I only pick up when I know I might have some free time in my schedule. It's crazy. Bonused every. single. time.

Write to the help desk and ask why you're not seeing the shops. You may have a temporary hold on your account. This has happened to me recently. I was shopping Five Guys regularly, getting calls from schedulers, getting bonuses, etc., then the shops just disappeared off my board, and the calls stopped coming. Not just locally, but anywhere I searched. I wrote to the help desk and actually got a helpful reply. They won't tell you specifics (like you were suspected to be the shopper, or you've done these so often we're worried you'll be outed), but they did say that in order to protect shoppers' anonymity, they sometimes will put you on hold. They told me I will be able to shop 5G again in September. I'm waiting with bated appetite.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Folks, one of the first posts I read on Volition dealt with decreasing fees; that was in 2003. I am not absolute very often, but this is an exception. As long as shoppers continue to work for less, less is what they will receive. The reimbursement level for 5 guys will never increase until the MSC that has the contract deems it favorable to their business model to take that action; until then, they will continue to bonus where necessary. That is business!
There must be a lot of people who are done with the 5 guys. They called and begged me to do one and offered $20 pay on top of the $12.

Does anyone know the quota for FG shops? I had seen previous posters mention hitting their quota and not being able to do anymore.

I've done about 30ish FGs. Am I close to due?
My minimum for this shop is now $12 at the current reimbursement level. If I go to Five Guys, I can't just get a little hamburger, so my purchase amount tends to be about $15 now. Occasionally a shop in the area will climb to $12, and I'll be happy to do it then as I do love their burgers and their fries, but it's not worth $6, or the occasional $8. At least they offer a fee though, unlike other MSC's who exclusively want to pay me in food.
