What are you doing today? (besides shopping)
Pick up movies for the weekend from the library, do the dishes I neglected yesterday because I was already tired. Look at recipes for chicken barley soup. Make chili beans which is different from "chili" with beans. It's a version that was popular in the little desert town I come from which has a lot more broth, it's not thick and has great chili flavor and is less tomatoey. (Is that a word?)

Valentine's Day! Recalling my first date with my husband 12 years ago. I had never been on a date and I was so shy back then, I took my younger sister with me!! Yikes. I don't know how he puts up with me sometimes. But, he was incredibly sweet about it. My sister, of course was not happy and was sulking the whole time. 15 days later, we were married.

I made traditional eggs Benedict for my hubby this morning. I bought him a lifetime Rosetta Stone subscription for Spanish since we go to Mexico so often. He got me chocolates, a lovely card, and a massage package.

@JASFLALMT. Yes, we had our first date on Valentine's Day. Hardly a whirlwind romance. We met as teenagers and never had two words to say to each other. Me, being too shy to even make eye contact and he just had a hard time (still has) expressing himself. We met each other years later when he confessed he had always liked me. Long story short, he convinced me into marrying him! And, I am so glad I did.

Well I don't have an actual recipe but I"ll try. I start with 2 cups of dry pintos and 8 cups of water. Add a t. of salt, 1/2 t. of pepper , 1 t. chopped garlic and about 1/2 t. dried onion. I add something for fat and flavor, like a slice of bacon or ham, or even a drizzle of olive oil is good. Put the lid on and cook on low for about 6 hours. The beans should be soft and the broth flavorful.
At that point you are ready to add the chili. Brown about 1 lb of lean ground beef in a skillet. Drain any fat. Add 1 t. chopped garlic, 1/2 chopped onion, 1 t. garlic salt, 1 t. cumin and a can of tomato sauce or tomato puree. Then add your chili powder. Depending on how hot and how spicy you like it. I usually use several tablespoons. I recommend adding one at a time until you think it's there. Then add your chili mixture to the large pot with the beans in it. Stir and boil for 10 minutes and then reduce heat and simmer for about an hour without the lid. You want the broth to thicken just a bit unless it's already thick. if so leave the lid on. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
These are rough amounts of the spices I use, since I don't measure.

Yesterday, my girlfriends and I did our "Galentines Day Dinner." There were four of us total. The host made cheesy, garlicky pasta dishes. It was a great time as usual!

Being alone can be a lot less lonely than staying with the wrong person. Leaving makes room for healing; staying just prolongs pain in such cases. Watching plants grow is very therapeutic because it reminds s that time does not stand still and therefore we are not still where we were hurt. Sending yo a huge hug.

wales, I do so much better since I got rid of the ex, but I'm still putting the fractured and splintered pieces back together. It's very frustrating and endless.

Happy Monday! As Mondays go, this is a goody. Early work was early, now we are listening to old comedy skits, and I have a little free time before my regularly scheduled to-do list must begin.

Today is my first day back shopping. A fast drive through this morning and a grocery shop this afternoon. It will be the first time I've been in a grocery store so we'll see how my energy holds out. I really don't expect any problems though.
Hubby is off of work for President's Day. I was hoping we could do some type of adventure, but life and the weather conspired against us. Just as I was feeling really sorry for myself I received a call from the handyman, asking if he could come and repair the grout in the master bedroom shower this afternoon.

Its been 4 weeks. Everything was fine though. I couldnt do a route or even two grocery shops in a row but one was very doable. I am still amazed at how long its taking me to get my strength and stamina back.

CQ, I think you're doing just fine after 4 weeks! Your energy and stamina will improve, now that your body isn't in full recovery mode!

The end of this time-consuming project is in sight, I am ecstatic to report. For my treat tomorrow, I will choose... oh, there are so many fine performances to consider! Today I started about 50 seeds in Jiffy pots for the spring garden, mostly tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and herbs. We are being teased with signs of early spring, but I am not buying into it! Seedlings will go in the ground in mid-April.
