What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

A combination of Census work and fitting in a targeted storage unit shop left over from last week.

Well, I'm going to try something new today for my 12 year old dog. His nails need trimming. They're not too bad, but they are a bit too long. He does seem to keep them to a certain length because we walk him on asphalt and concrete every day. But they still need trimming. While he is a wonderful, docile pet under normal situations, if you try to do ANYTHING to his body (other than a bath), he turns into a vicious killer!! (not quite, but sort of!!). We've had to have him sedated just to clean his ears out! So anyhow, I saw on Youtube about making a "scratching board" out of sandpaper, and trying to coax him with treats to get used to using it to file his own nails down. It's worth a try. So I'm going to make one today. If it works, it will be great for his front nails. I don't know what to do for his back nails that don't involve using any kind of trimmer or hand held filer, which he will NEVER allow!! Anyone out there have any ideas for the back nails?
Today is the day I finally clean out my fabric stash so that I can donate it to a friend who has been making masks for homeless shelters. It's a great way to clean up the crafts closet while doing something good with all my excess fabric.

I live a couple of miles west of the I-95 corridor in MD. The worst of the storm is east of us. That must be pretty serious based on what I can see here.
My townhouse sits on a hill well above a series of storm water management ponds (SWMs). I can see the second of the three ponds but not the last, which is hidden by trees. I have lived here for 30+ years and this is only the second time that I have SWM pond 2 so full that it is topping the over cage/drain that would send excess water to pond 3. That drain sits high above the usual surface level of the pond. A submerged drain/cage indicates that pond 3 is also fill and overflowing. I know that the drains were cleaned out just a few days ago, a procedure that is routine when a major storm is known to be approaching. The SWM ponds pose no threat to the houses on this hill, but now I am somewhat concerned about the roadside storm sewer drains along our road.

So, I am not going anywhere today and possibly not tomorrow.

The rain has stopped, quite suddenly and the SWM ponds seem to be recovering, but slowly. I suspect that the stream systems that they feed into if in flood mode because I know that area would have flash floods any time its catchment area has very heavy rain. And those, in turn, feed into the Anacostia River, and thence into the Potomac, both of which area above flood stage.

So, I am rescheduling all of the shops for Thursday and Friday that I can. But that has also meant having to drop a couple because they have no available dates at this time. Good news; I did find an oil change shop in the area where I now have a small group of Friday shops.

Now, time for lunch and a nap.

Picking beans and peas. If I ever get off the couch!
Lining up all the refundable containers and taking pictures- prep for very rare mystery shop
wales, I teleworked because of the flash floods in my community. Department of Natural Resources had several areas blocked off. Right after I got my work laptop set up, the sky was blue.

The watermelon plants on my balcony are spreading like mad!

Wales & Honny, I have siblings in both Maryland and Virginia. Both said they were surprised at how quickly the storm passed through, and they were glad! They both said it was sunny and pleasant after the storm.
The usual: work. more work. there is always more work (of some sort).

Yesterday, I got more work gloves. Huzzah! Now, I figure out many masks to buy. Is this the super bulk for 2-3 years? Would a one-year supply suffice and still cut the cost of masks overall?

Today is dedicated to figuring out how to become a part of Amazon's space program.

Took advantage of beautiful weather to take a bike ride. Hubby and I packed our lunch and stopped for ice cream for dessert.

After looking at every single job that is open for the program, I qualified for 2. The one that has the job title of what I did at NASA was something completely different. The other one is short term.

All but one position is in Washington State. The other position is in Texas, I assume at Johnson Space Center (Houston, we have a problem).

Since space is no longer an option, I took a peek at their Air division with positions at BWI.

Amazon is amazing. I did not expect all of this!

SpaceX? ILA? Mars One, even?

OK, so strike that last one.

panama, I'm staying with Amazon. I used to work as a contractor for NASA, but there was no stability in that. Amazon gives its managers nice incentives to stay: stocks vested after a few years and cash which has to be paid back if I leave.

My last company at NASA gave employees a small Target gift card.

After work I went to the Amazon locker to pick up 3 packages. They were in separate lockers but showed up when I put in the first code. When I got home, there was a package at my front door. It was too big to fit in a locker.

It's no wonder why their stock price is where it's at.

Which phone did you get? I upgraded to an LG from a Samsung. This phone is awesome, but after 3 consecutive Samsungs, it is a learning process.

I got an LGK61. We have had LGs for a while, so that helps. I always go there hoping to get the same phone (and deal) that Hubby got a few months ago, but that never works.
My phone is "new and improved". My old $28 a month plan is obsolete.

Work. More work. Still more work.
Then...
Work at home...

Today was crazy busy at work and I got through it unscathed. I celebrated at home with a dirty martini.

I put in a few hours for the Census....just enough time outside to be beat. (Even though temps were in the low 80s the sun was hot).

Trying to cope with no power and running on a generator. No power since Tuesday, 2pm. Restoration estimates keep getting extended every hour. We are now looking at Saturday pm. So many of us are running on generators. Sandy and the long outage prompted generator purchases. All good but sooooo noisy. Fallen trees everywhere, my neighbor's roof shingles flew off, traffic lights blown away, another friend's two cars totalled by two fallen trees (kind of stupid that they didn't move them), many traffic lights not working but streets closed off to prevent accidents.
Work. Errands that were not completed yesterday. Shop for us and a pantry.

I had a few items at the grocery store and the elderly lady in front of me let me go first since she had a full cart. I placed her cart items on the conveyor. She offered me a tip! I thought that was so sweet.

Going to get my hair cut in about an hour.
