NSS...Out of business, Owner died/ For recapped short version see pinned thread on page 1 by LisaSTL

I just read that the CEO of nss committed suicide. And the company owes a lot of shoppers money. Has anyone else heard of this?

So very sad. My sympathies to family, friends, employees -- and all those shoppers who haven't been paid. I'm sure it caused hardship to some of us.
I don't know if this has been posted, but I just saw this.

Well apparently you have to be a subscriber to read the whole article, but this is sad on so many levels. Rest in Peace NSS owner. <3

Reading through this thread has made me lose what little faith I had in humanity. Ive done a few shops for NSS in the past. I mean they dont owe me the thousands of dollars they must owe all of you. Someone died. Y'all need some church.
This was posted early on, and I agreed with you back then. I still agree now.
I had three pizza shops at different locations in one week. I've been doing these shops for several months. I was surprised to receive a notice stating the shop on 5-24-17 was deleted "because of issues". The other two were accepted. I sent several emails to the email address provided "for retraining" but received no response. I have seen the thread about no payments and the death of the CEO. Don't know if that is related to not receiving a response. Anyone else dealing with the deleted shops issue? I am not sure what to do about it at this point. No new shops are posted in my area, at least not for me.

Go into your shopper account asap and document what you are owed.
Send a certified letter with all documentation to the following address. Don't expect any responses until an estate administrator has been approved on 6/28.

(hopefully mail to that address is being forwarded to someone)

I had a job on May 1st which I did. My payroll says I am owed the 30.00, but as we know, they closed, and
really that shop shouldn't have been given out as they were already under ground. (I mean the business).
I will write a letter, but as I see it, I and others are at the bottom of the list of folks that will get paid. I hate
to be negative, but we are not first in line....hopefully, it will be resolved, when?????

Joan has pointed out it will be June 28 before an administrator is officially appointed. Who knows how long it takes to settle business affairs. If NSS was a viable business up until the owner's death, meaning they had cash flow sufficient to pay their bills, there is no logical reason for the executor not to authorize payments and for there to be enough money to cover everything. I realize shoppers have put out money, but is there really any alternative other than documenting your claim and being patient?

I wasn't complaining, just stating facts. I am patient and as I said, hopefully it will be resolved. I was lucky my loss was small. My point was they should not have scheduled jobs knowing they were out of operations.

If an assignment was never added through the website, only by email, would that be sufficient proof for payment due? Britney Eason contacted me in early April about ordering a specific new menu item in addition to the regular assignment I was scheduled to do. It would be reimbursement only, no fee, and she said it wouldn't appear on my list of assignments. I'd just need to email her pictures of the food as well as a couple sentences on what I thought about it. I have the full email conversation, including a thank you from her once the assignment was complete.

I'm not in a rush (only due about $70 in reimbursement and $50 in fees) and will wait to see how things play out before contacting anyone or mailing anything. I'd just like to know what e-mails and documents are worth keeping and forwarding once this gets straightened out.
Personally, I would keep anything and everything. Your email chain is apparently the only proof for the special shop, so definitely include it with your other documentation.

Shops done are kept by NSS log which is available on their site. Print that out written by them. They know what they owe, and have kept their site and information up.

It looks like anyone in the mystery shopping business can join that group. I was approved fast too. There are a lot of people in that group.

Matt died in February. At this point, no one knows who authorized March-May shops to be scheduled and performed. Until that is sorted out, there's no way to know whether NSS itself or the Matt's estate is liable for payment to shoppers.

There are currently at least 3 reporters doing research and publishing articles regarding NSS. Hopefully they will be able to dig deep enough to get the answers that shoppers need in order to get paid.

The company may have been in a position where shops needed to be scheduled through a certain date or they were in breach of contract. A breach could than have impacted payment for the entire project or projects. We know the owner of one of the clients is rather ruthless so death or no death, he doesn't strike me as the sort who would just "let it slide."

No, we are not out of the money yet. The whole thing at this point is still tangled up in who's doing what. When someone dies it often takes a long time for the estate to settle. Especially if the deceased has not taken care of what happens in the event of his death. Since none of us know that, in my mind, there is still hope that eventually the dust will settle and we'll get paid. BUT you will need to have patience as it may take months..
How old are you?
@plmccut I am still owed over $200 and had another check for a $106 that bounced, which resulted in an additional return fee for me. So yes, we are out of money already. It shows one month as paid and 2 yet unsettled. but I have 3 months owed

plmccut simply meant there is a chance everyone will be paid when the estate administrator is appointed and the business dealings are sorted out.

Why does my age matter? I'm old enough to be your mother.
But apparently not old enough to participate in a civil discussion.

Mmmm. Old enough to be my Mom? That would be pretty old! I'll be 79 in Sept. I asked your age because younger people may not have the experience or the patience of someone older.

So are we out of our money? The law firm claims no connection to NSS.

The law firm represents Matt's Estate...not his business holdings- NSS, etc. Once this is all sorted out, hopefully the name of the law firm representing NSS will be disclosed. Until then, continue sending certified letters (NOT emails, faxes, etc) to the NSS address thoroughly documenting your shops and payments due (and hope mail is being forwarded to the proper entity).
