When I lived in LA, a date and I walked through an alley to go to our destination. Alleys are LA's version of Freecycle. There were a ton of books. I picked up a French cookbook from the 1940s. I made a dish from that cookbook tonight, from memory. Butter, bacon, potatoes and onions. Simple, but so delicious. And my house smells like butter!
