Nothing so dramatic and exciting here.

Today I went for a long hike with my girlfriend and her dogs. After that, I stopped by the grocery story to pick up some ingredients I was missing for Honey Lentils. I'm going to binge watch "Lost."

Chilly, raining and windy here in SC, with high temps in the low 50s! Got the heat on! Lost our power for about 2.5 hrs earlier today. Flash flooding and trees down in spots. So it's nice hot homemade chicken and vegetable soup with tuna sandwiches for supper!

Gee. I hope this is not a foreshadowing of the next new normal... Picture it: somewhere, anywhere really, 2020 and on into the great beyond... And the text notification reads: 'for reason or reasons unknown and inexplicable, your shipment has been re-directed to another continent'.

I had an appointment to have the air conditioner serviced somewhere between 8 am-noon. Technician was ringing the doorbell shortly before 8, and gone by 8:40. Now I need to put together the shopping list I didn't have time to make beforehand and head out to the store. Mainly for produce, but when I'm at Aldi I will peek into the Great Clips in the same center and see how long the wait is. They're not doing online check-in, so my expectations are low.

SEL, this is my job site, not a package delivery.

The Honey Lentils are in the crock pot! Only I used black eyed peas instead of lentils.

I have both black eyed peas and lentils in the house. Mind sharing your recipe?

Apparently, I had the lentils too! I just didn't realize it until the last part of the recipe, which follows.

1 1/2 cups lentils ((brown or green)
3 cups water
1/2 red onion, diced
1 (15-ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 cup shredded carrot
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon dried mustard
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh is shown in the picture, but it was all black and nasty when I peeled it)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/3 cup honey
1 dried bay leaf or 2 fresh

The Directions.

I used a 4 quart crockpot.

Put the lentils into your crockpot. Add the water. Chop up the onion, and add along with the carrots.

Drain and rinse the garbanzo beans and add. Stir in the dried mustard, salt, and ginger. Add the soy sauce and honey.

Stir to combine. Float the bay leaf on top.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-5.

I know. They continuously re-route your employment. Who knows what they are doing with other employees?! Soon, they will have practiced enough to be perfect. The next thing to re-direct is ... packages! grinning smiley

Anyway, I like the sound of honey lentils, honey black peas, honey whatever. So today I will print a recipe and tomorrow I will fetch ingredients.

Sounds wonderful. Last summer I grew ginger in a pot on my deck, and harvested the root when the weather got cold. I washed it well, put it (unpeeled) through the slicing attachment of the food processor, then froze the slices. When I need fresh ginger I just take out what I need and chop it up.

Celebrating a VERY small victory. Aldi actually has hot dog buns, Brioche style, 6 to a package. This matches the number of hot dogs in a pack of their all beef NY Style brand. I had been craving hot dogs with relish and now I can have those for lunches, without figuring out just what to do with the 2 extra buns, lol. Yes, I know, toast them and have for breakfast with jam or honey, but, really !!??

KathyG, how did you start your ginger? I would love to add it to the balcony garden.

The recipe was just okay. I used an orange blossom honey and it was too strong.

I bought several big pieces of ginger at the grocery store, then came home and soaked it for 24 hours to remove any growth retardant. Broke them into pieces that each had a couple of growing buds and put them in a pot 6"-* apart and a couple of inches deep with the growth buds facing up. When the weather got hot I put the pot outside where it got a half day of sun and kept it watered.

Our St. Louis summers are hot and humid, and the tropical ginger really thrived.

Honny, don't know why, but I thought you lived out closer to the East Coast, like in New England, my bad. That lentil soup recipe sounds yummy!! Thanks for posting.

My grocery store had fresh garlic today. Finally! They said it's from Spain, but who knows. I got 30 bulbs. Put a few in my garlic keeper on the counter, and roasted the rest outside on the grill. Tomorrow, I'm going to freeze them, two ways. Cloves, frozen in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transferred to freezer bags. Also, minced cloves and olive oil, frozen in a ice cube trays, then transferred to bags. I'm also going to make a compound butter log which will last a few weeks in the fridge.
Can take out one cube, two, three, or ?, as needed. It works well. I do the same with fresh parsley and basil.
KathyG, I have one knob of ginger left in the fridge. I'm going to try growing it in a pot this summer.

I made a mushroom omelet with the mushrooms I got from the farmer's market. It was very tasty.

I removed the bad seeds (the ones that did not sprout) from the windowsill garden and replaced them with k-cups of dill, bunching onions and anaheim peppers.

Took one of the vehicles in for maintenance. No free oil changes right now. I needed brakes, a hose and a rotation anyway.
Took an Uber home.
Opened my produce delivery from Imperfect Foods. The zucchini were the size of my forearm.
Leaving shortly in a different vehicle to go get plants, go get a few grocery items, etc.
Will work on eBay stuff later.
Dinner on the pool deck. Probably having margaritas.

I just got done working 12 days in a row. So, I'm trying to wind down from that.
The sun is out for the first time in almost a week! It's supposed to start raining this evening, so I am going to take a nice long walk while I can.

Work. More and more and more work. Unfreeze back (which froze in the middle of a merch). Fortunately, the hubby had PPE and could help with some of the tasks. Postpone other back intensive projects.

Got my hair cut at Great Clips. Checked in online, and drove to the store when my 30-minute wait was up. Everyone in the salon was wearing a mask, and they had barriers between stations (although today there was only someone working in every other station). Stylist told me that they were washing aprons after each use.

I had two inches removed, and she also took care of the mess I made when I trimmed my bangs. I walked out of there feeling like a new person.

I'm going grocery shopping later today. I'm not going to eat breakfast because I get my best culinary ideas when I'm hungry.
