BARE and the mysterious shipping company

Unless they have changed it this week, you need to mail to a zip code other than the one you are standing in when you are in the post office. Unless your state has only one zip code you would be able to mail within the state.

Is that for all the scenarios? I did one last week and mailed to a city around 10 miles away. The shop was accepted with a 10 rating.

I am not seeing where that is the case - just a different zip code.

I still think it is suspicious for anyone to be spending $7-10 to send a package between two close zip codes. I don't know of anyone who has done that barring unusual circumstances.

You know you would think that but when I was in the post office the other day the person ahead of me was mailing a package across the river (less than 10 miles) and asking the worker if that was ok. In many areas people just don't like to drive here or there and they rather throw something in the mail even if it seems costly. I know she wasn't the shopper because I was.
And of course eBay purchases can be bought from anywhere. Even when I am buying from somebody local and would love to pick the item up and save on the shipping cost, it often is not allowed.

Does eBay no longer allow local pick-up or is it just that your seller does not want to?

I used to sell a lot on eBay, but I haven't been on that site in a couple years. Some of my best sales were for local pick up. I once sold $300 in my daughter's toddler clothing to a buyer about an hour away. Once she knew she wouldn't be paying shipping, she bought most of what I had and we met at McD's halfway between.
Seller refused. I haven't done it in a couple of years, but pretty obviously the seller was making a bunch of their profit out of the shipping, which is not subject to eBay fees. So sell the item for $1 and charge $30 for shipping seems to be the mode of operation for a number of folks.

Oh, one of those. That was probably the biggest reason I stopped buying there even after I gave up selling. When I left eBay they supposedly were taking action against that.
They obviously haven't. Not terribly long ago I purchased microphones for my DVR. They were $1 to $1.99 ea and would not combine shipping so the shipping was about $10. It still was a good deal for me, though it was ripping off eBay.
I assumed if they were paying a $10.00 reimbursement, they wanted it sent to a different state, not just zip.....my mind is in Chicago, as that's where I send things, so, perhaps I had blinders on.

I am doing a couple of the Regular box shop. They have at 4 different scenarios. The diferent ZCs is a blessing b/c differnt part of town has different ZC.

Bare is paying for postage. Go downtown and send yourself a box of spaggetti. or box of dog bones. or 2 cans of soup.

The average city has at least 4 shipping areas with at least 10 different zip codes.

It is also a good shop to do if one has holiday packages to get out.

Bare is looking for staff adhering to companies policy and procedures. The guidelines are pretty self explaintory. Most of the answers are in the guidelines. I see it as an easily $20 per shop

Unless you are shipping items you would normally be paying to ship, I don't see how it is a $20 shop. You are paid $10 and the rest is reimbursement for what you are paying out to begin with.
I have done both scenarios so far, doing 2 shipping facilities for each. It was very handy in that I have a daughter out of state and parents out of state. My daughter had two birthdays coming up in her family, so that was most handy to be able to send the gifts for free. Then I sent my grandkids some dollar store Halloween decor - you can get a lot in there for a pound! Sent my folks some Halloween stuff, too. My only complaint was that both times I had ONE day notice, so scrambling to find something that was the right weight and have it ready that fast was tough. Why can't they give at least 3 to 5 days' notice on those jobs???
I'm sure it it is just my city (which is quite large) but all I have seen so far are a couple of jobs waaaay far from my house and not close to one another. Maritz had tons of these posted at one time.
As long as they continue the last minute assigning of the work to be done the next day I will not be playing. I will not tie up my 'dance card' with maybes when there are plenty of jobs out there to firmly schedule into routes.

Ok. The way I see it. YOU looked at the shop for a few days b4 signing up. Those were your days of procastanating. BARE asked you, "what day can you do the shop?' That day was UR day for shop. AND UR problem is.............?

Once you took the exam, you already assigned yourself. That is when you start looking for your pound package. Anything in real-life that weighs a pound. Still weighs a pound when you wrap it in wrapping paper.

In the Guidelines, they give you suggestions on what weighs a pound. (a 16 oz box of pasta, 2 cans of soup,2 paperback books. or 100 sheets of paper).

U seems to already have the family and the cause to ship too. So stop thinking you don't have the time.

I still think it is an easily shop. ($17 to $20). Remember the guideline said if the clerk offers EXPRESS as cheaper way., then we must purchase EXPRESS. Other than that we do PRIORITY.

Go downton and send your Spouse a special something---a differrent ZCs. Ones employment ZC is different from their residencal zipcode.

(The ZC of the receipient must be a different ZC than the PO which U R mailing from.) Sounds like one can mail themselves something.

Remember the $$$$ store sell shipping supplies. For $5 purchase some shipping supplies and mail them to yourself. Easy money.
OK, I am a grump, but I don't feel the love here. Buy an unknown quantity of boxes hoping to use them up before the program changes, find something to mail, find recipient(s), be ready on a day's notice, drive 10-30 miles, all for a few bucks. Come back Maritz, I love you more and more.
Why R U purchassng boxes? Regular box secenario does not require you to PURCHASE a box. (You will need to mail a package that weighs 1 pound or more.) What happened to wrapping packages in brown paper bag?

Scenerio B requires U to purchase a ReadyPost Box. So why would U purchase more that one? Same thing with Scenerio C--Dim Weight shop? The guidelines do not include that UR boxe must be purchase at the same time as your visit. You just need to upload the receipt if needed.

Why are U assigning Urself to a 30 miles away from home shop (60 R/T)?

Currently in my area in a 10 mile radius, there are 15 PO shops. Out of the 15, maybe 12 are Scenarios As. Plus all 15 are in a different ZC, I can do the shop by shipping things to myself. (THe mailing PO zipcode must be different than the receipent ZC.)

SHOPTOYOUDROP-------mail yourself a provacative gift in one of those purchased box. Christmas and Channukkah is coming, for that matter Thanksgiving will be here b4 U know it---send URself sme receipes or a TURKEY. When you do one shop, get ready for the next shop.

Don't do Scenarios B or C. until they stop offering Scenario A.

Except for FF shops, I have not jump on as many shop in such a short period of time. I have even mailed myself a telephone book and a box of cheerios. What is 2-3 days? And if it is damaged, (insured) that's more money in my pocket.

Thes shops are more about the Postal standards and the staff effeciently to policy, than about what I can mail and to where.

With the internet and its large capilites, the PO and it services are falling down by the wayside.
It is impressive that you have had that many near you show up. Within 10 miles of me there are 2 locations and neither has been shopped yet. When I go out 15 miles there are 4 locations total and only 1 has been shopped. When I go out 30 there are 6 locations and only 2 have been shopped yet.

Within 10 miles of me, I have one that shows up and that is the one I shopped. I usually search within 50 of miles because due to my rural area, that is about as far out as you have to go to get to anything. I have around 12 in that 50 miles. I am debating on doing another one.
For some reason we don't seem to have one PO per zip code. I always thought that was the reason for the zip code--to identify which PO to send to. Perhaps they planned to add more locations when they laid out the zip code map and just never got any 'round tuit's.
FLASH- or any POSTOR -----I don't know where you live but I kidd you not. Go to the job board and just put in this info. First check by state NEW YORK, almost 300 shops show up with a majority being USPS.

Then check by my ZC. 50 miles within ZC 12206. That still about 15 shops. And I went within 10 miles of that and still got 10 shops. Some of them are different areas of the same town. (GPS, GPS, GPS)

There are many USPS shops in my area, if I did two a day for a week, there would still be some I did not cover. The shops is to evaluate the office and the staff. The mailing of the package is to see if the staff is offering the different tpes of mailings. I like cereal. I buy it, then I ship it.

Like I said b4 the regular box shop is the currently the one I want to shop. The report form is the same for all three scenarios. When you go to the PO you are really looking for things out of place based on the Guidelines. It will get reshop to see if the out of place error was corrected.
sojo, it is not a matter of disbelief but rather minor disappointment that local shops here are about as scarce as hen's teeth. It is certainly not a real frustration as these are turning out to be last minute $10 shops for others as well as the one which I did, and for $10 I'm not about to rearrange my schedule or take off at distances to do an orphan shop because I have nothing else scheduled in the area. If and as I see them appear here I will simply request those that are along an already scheduled route and if they are assigned, fine, if not, fine as well.
I'm a bit late to this party, having never done this shop for Maritz, and just assigned myself one with Bare. I have to assume that all zips have not rolled out. Zips within 15 miles of me have not shown on the board yet. I picked up one in a zip that's in a route I'm doing tomorrow. For me, it's strictly a $10 shop. I won't get the benefit of a reimbursed shipment, as I don't have anyone to mail to but myself. Other shoppers have posted of a wait and see, one day turnaround. I self-assigned, with choice of any date between Oct. 28-Nov. 1.

I'm gathering that this shop has been done for years, at taxpayers' expense. I see dichotomies and ironies here. I'm not sure if service from the client has worsened or improved, let alone if being shopped paid for itself.

I'm party pooping and overthinking. Sorrysmiling smiley

I always thought about this when I used to do these for Maritz. There they would actually send you the boxes you were supposed to mail and then you would mail them. That makes 2 shipments for each shop. Of course, all of these expenses were paid by the client and, therefore, came from yours and mine taxes. With rates going up and them laying off people, one must wonder if this worth it.
It's 3:25 AM and I'm rolling on the floor laughing. You guys are just too funny.
I've done three of these, mailed the GRANDS (kids) books I forgot to take with me to Charlotte, their Holloween stuff to Charlotte & Raleigh and tomorrow a wine opener for my friend in Florida but no cereal to myself. So far I've gone over reimbursed $$ for the books & the tape the Clerk charged me for 'cause he couldn't find 2" to give me! I think the USPO has learned what McD hasn't: UPSELL.
I must say I'm learning not to dread the USPO, service is efficient, friendly, a good place to hang out; now I'm ready to conquer my fear of dentists!
I as well see this as a $20.00 job as I would be shipping to my daughter anyway and pay out of pocket. I am sending her holiday gift early and they are paying , hopefully, she will wait to open!! Doing another one today in another zip and while I won't spend $$ to send something to myself, she will get yet another gift. Good news, my Cjhannakah shopping will be done early, shops are pretty easy and lines aren't too bad yet.

Live consciously....
My city has so many zip codes, I wouldn't even spend time counting them! I suppose it depends on where you live, but here, mailing something to another zip code within the city is not at all unusual.
