How has the CoronaVirus affected you?

I bought a batch of Presto. The Mega rolls which are huge and ultra soft variety. It's a quality paper, strong, and soft. It's lasting quite awhile. I would rebuy even at $2.00 per roll.

@shoptastic wrote:

What is considered a decent Amazon price for TP during COVID-19?

I'm seeing roughly $1.50 to $2.00 per roll on average from browsing.

eta: For reference, one roll of Amazon's Presto brand = 200 sheets.

Free of reports and guidelines, I was available for an entire rainstorm. Window open an inch, thunder, splatters, and a final cool breeze gave me a perfect late afternoon.

The A Grade, The price for my all-time favorite toilet paper Charmin Ultra Strong, is pricing out to be a whopping ~$0.0037/sheet, which is waaaaay over my price point for this (originally at $0.0022/sheet or lower, post-tax and post-coupons). I would also add in Quilted Northern Ultra Plush Three-Ply in the A Grade, as this is one of the few quality toilet papers AND it's 3-ply!!!

I think the majority of the denizens on Earth price their TP by roll - not sheets. smiling smiley

That's a very flawed way to analyze it. That's like saying I count my soft drinks I buy by the can, but for most soda cans, thay can either be the mini 7.5 oz or the US standard 12 oz. winking smiley

The total volume per roll is not equal between brands (i.e. Mega Roll, Super Mega Roll, etc.), as the dimensions are typically given to easily calculate a proper normalization. I used to dig more into total square footage, but concluded that accounting for both the length and width differences between brands is negligible; however, total number of sheets EASILY make a difference.

That's like saying all individual mystery shops at equal flat-rate fees can be seen as equals, but obviously, that's definitely NOT the case, right? winking smiley

The product is formatted on rolls, but the amount of product is measured in sheets. Ply just makes it better (or more of a pita).

If we want to dive deeper beyond volume and ply, there's also factors in the quality paper used, texture (coarse vs. soft), additives to the paper pulping process including waxes, lotions, fragrances, etc. The science of toilet paper is quite intriguing, to say the least!

Room over the garage too.

We have a walk up space over the garage (barn) that we have never used for anything. I suppose we could use it to store toilet paper.

When paper goods are advertised as, "One roll equals four," or equally inane nonsense, you start to figure it out per sheet. We will literally do toilet paper math in Target like Tarantago does.
and sheet size (I'm too lazy to track this for precision and just eye-ball for closeness)
Oh, one quick clarification: I don't know a single person (could be my circle only) who prices TP by sheets.

It's always rolls adjusted by sheets.

I was not suggesting to Tarantado that doing it by sheets IS A BAD IDEA. Just saying that I believe most people don't do it that way (could be way off, though!).

If you want the details, I found that Angel Soft, which I consider a C brand toilet paper, actually prices considerably cheap compared to the A and B Brands...

I'm talking about almost 40% BETTER value, but the quality isn't that good.

How do they do this? Not only their toilet paper is priced considerably cheap, they also skimp out on width (3.8" x 4", as opposed to 3.92" x 4" from quality brands like Charmin). But that obviously doesn't tell the full story until the calculations are done for it.

For comparison for CURRENT post-tax pricing for my area comparing both in-store and online pricing:

Angel Soft is $0.000149 per in.^2 and $0.002270 per Sheet

Cottonelle Ultra ComfortCare is $0.000256 per in.^2 and $0.003909 per Sheet

Charmin Ultra Strong is $0.000236 per in.^2 and $0.003704 per Sheet

Charmin Ultra Soft is $0.000256 per in.^2 and $0.004013 per Sheet

If economy is what you're aiming for without it being sandpaper like Scotts, Angel Soft prices out considerably less than the competition; however, the brand name is deceiving, as it's definitely NOT Angel Soft.

Seriously? Someone did not get sarcasm (ya' know, disinfectant and all that)? So I am wondering: are some super smart people who are telling everyone what to do having trouble with sarcasm? This could end up like 'The Big Bang Theory', in which a Sheldon is in charge. This does not bode well for the future...

not sarcasm. in case anyone was uncertain.

The last thing anyone should be doing, especially doing a very serious press conference is joke around. Even if he was making a dry joke, he didn't make it ABSOLUTELY apparent.

But here's the crazy thing..... Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) is genuinely a REAL thing and a scam that PROMOTES knowingly ingesting chlorine dioxide to "cure" people of chronic illnesses such as AIDS, but with the recent events, quacks have been promoting MMS to "cure" people of the coronavirus. Like all the scams that have been magically been popping up as of late, like the Ponzi scheme many of my former high school classmates are partaking in, despite my preaching on the 'wrong' it's doing, MMS is miraculously becoming viral too for whatever reason. What's next? The sudden rise of MLM's again to somehow help "fix" the economy?

Save Your Bacon: A real meat shortage looms with virus shutdowns
[www.politico.com]

Seeing a number of articles on possible meat shortage looming. Here was just one above.

@ wrote:

Multiple economists who spoke with POLITICO said May could be when consumers have fewer options when buying meat.
Well, I guess I will just not eat as much meat. It will be fine. Thank goodness I have plenty of dead animal carcasses in my freezer.
We will all experience increased health when we eat less meat. That is the least of my worries.
I will miss sufficient meat. I feel better and fuller longer after eating meat compared to other foods. For whatever reason, I can dismiss most other foods and never miss them. Some genetic thing? This form of iron suits me? Who knows. Not so important compared to other concerns for other people. I feel for people in the meat industry who will lose money one way or another due to the closure of processing sites.

Today, I read that New Zealand is targeted for its covid approach. I do not live there, and I do not know the details of the place. Is this real or fake news? Overreaching dogma or sensible? I will find out about that...

We have lots of eggs, almonds, peanuts, and various canned beans for protein if meat is short.

Lots of frozen chicken (we have a giant freezer and a second normal fridge in the garage), so that should last us a while. We last bought a bunch of steak too from Harris Teeter and have a little bit in the freezer left too, I believe. Also have lots of shrimp.

Hopefully, this alleged possible meat shortage will not result in people not getting the nutrition they need.
Almonds are great for the immune system.
We use meat alternatives. Some of them are good for us, and some are cost effective. But they are not satisfying.

I wonder if someone will now re-configure the processing system so that meat eaters can have this food and employees in the industry are safe at work. Hmmmm.....

We also have lots of tuna. If not for mercury poisoning, I'd eat it a lot more. It's filling and tastes good in wheat toasted sandwiches with a pickle on the side. Yum!
I feel the same way about people sometimes.

Didn't HoneyBrown work for some sort of food company? Maybe HoneyBrown can tell us if this type of change is even possible...

It doesn't really matter what he says, the same people pushing the russia, russia, russia, the impeachment since inauguration etc are going to exaggerate and find fault with anything and everything he does or says or thinks. The sane just have to tune out the noise.
While i agree with these two statements on their own, it would be great if you could leave politics out of the forum.
