What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

JAS, I thought you made a typo. I used to love the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

How long to you cook it for? That sounds delicious.

Jas,
Nope. That combo produces a lovely sauce. About 6 oz of pesto, one pack of Ranch mix, 1/2 cup broth. So, if you have those on your shelves, plus chicken parts, you are all set.

Was there a specific recipe you were looking for? I have one of the old copies. I could look it up for you.

As a side note, mine is a paperback with both covers not attached anymore. I was thinking of buying a new one but I didn't know they revised it - does that mean the recipes aren't the same. My favorite sweet and sour apple beets are from that cookbook. Soooo good and no sugar added.

I need to get my hands on an original or old copy of the Joy of Cooking. They've revised it and there are new versions, but I'm a) unwilling to pay for an out of print copy at a "vintage" price, and b) not really sure I want the updated version. IDK, I might try it. Mmm, to the butter and onions. Yum.

naivasna, I hope your Mom is okay! I have so many black and blue marks on my legs from doing the exact same thing.

I did a shop yesterday that had me looking at all natural deodorants. They were $11.99. No thanks!

When I lived in LA, a date and I walked through an alley to go to our destination. Alleys are LA's version of Freecycle. There were a ton of books. I picked up a French cookbook from the 1940s. I made a dish from that cookbook tonight, from memory. Butter, bacon, potatoes and onions. Simple, but so delicious. And my house smells like butter!

I got a splinter in the middle finger of my left hand some time ago. Thought I removed the whole thing, but my body told me otherwise....by the time I went to the urgent care this morning there was a half-inch raised callous that was annoying whenever I accidentally hit it. The doctor numbed my finger, dug out the offending foreign object, then had to put a suture in the area to close it up.

Everything I've tried to do since I got home has been very difficult, and I'm not a very good invalid. The rest of the day will be interesting.

I didn't know you could run in them. It looks hard even walking in them, much less running!
That’s not for me..... I’m not a runner and... Snowshoeing is already 2-3 times as intense as hiking... I’m more sore today after a relatively flat 8 miles In the snow than after 11-12 miles and 4000 feet in elevation gain in good weather!

There are snowshoes specifically designed for running. Mine are designed for floating in deep snow and climbing icy slopes...

In my world, there are bunnies and wild hares. You, with your snowshoes, are a wild hare. Running on snowshoes is a wild hare.

Gotta love a kilt, but... a kilt and an accent might just top the kilt only.

I just bought tickets for a show at our downtown historic Civic theater for March. It's the Red Hot Chili Pipers. Apparently they play rock music with bagpipes (in addition to electric guitars and drums).

I couldn't resist the following description: "How you know you’re at a Piper's concert: evocative bagpipes, dazzling lights and fog, nine guys wearing kilts."
Kimmie,
I did 4 bone-in chicken thighs in that ranch/pesto sauce in about 3.5-4 hours on high. I think that on low heat it could be 6-7 hours. I also have worked with a first hour on high and the balance on low for many recipes. If you use a CrockPot device, be aware that they are notorious for boiling everything, so long cook times on low and more monitoring may be in order.

This was a first try; next time, I will reduce the amount of broth, I think. Also, there was enough sauce so that in a larger slow cooker I could probably have done 6 bone-in thighs, at least. I mixed the sauce ingregients in the slow cooker liner that I was using before putting the thighs in and shaking it to cover them, before placing in the cooking vessel.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Trying to get a bit more control over the rest of the shopping month after shaking things up a LOT yesterday. A scheduler got in touch last night and asked me if I could add 3 well-paid video shops to the remaining shops I have for him this month. I have scrambled to take into account what shops MUST be done on weekend days and which can be done 7 any day of the week, factored in next weekemd's mini-route, which was already "set in stone" and did some horse trading with said scheduler. He took back 3 of my scheduled non-video shops which each paid $X (and which any of his shoppers could do) and I agreed to take the 3 video ones, each of which pays 2$X Now I am fine-tuning the schedules for remaining shops from one other MSC to try to make the logistics of each MS day saner.

I have been under the weather for 2 days, so was having to be at home anyway today. I am doing laundry, tidying the kitchen, thinking about finding the plunger and snake to work of a recalcitrant drain and listening to the wind howl through the huge pine trees behind my house.

Thanks, Wales. I will have to try it. I had a recipe that I used to make alot until one day my mother said she couldn't chew it? She's all about texture now. Anyway, it was boneless chicken breasts, then 2 chicken gravy packets mixed with some water and cream of chicken soup. I forgot how long you cooked it in the slow cooker but it was amazing over mashed potatoes. I love chicken in the slow cooker.

Kim
Hope you feel better soon.

I couldn't do it but it must be a great workout!

It is... And, it's a lot more fun than hanging out in a gym on some cardio machine! (Though, there are certain risks involved, making some backcountry know-how important..)

I think the walk alone would be a great workout!

At least you have something worth looking at while walking. Around here I would have to drive at least 30 minutes to find anything worthwhile viewing, but I'd rather take a walk in the fall for sure. And, the snow here right now is mostly ice, as it snowed a few inches, then it got into the 40s and melted, then rained/sleeted for several hours, then froze again (temp outside is 23 right now). We have had the oddest winter.
My busy, happy shoppers life was rudely interrupted by my gallbladder which began insisting that my life be one of agony and pain.I entered the hospital on friday and exited today minus the offending organ.Honestly i feel like it has a temporary victory since recuperation takes 6 weeks! At any rate all of your adventures were so lively. From MFJohnston bravely (and madly) dashing through the snow to Honny wandering the alleys looking for cookbooks so that she could later detail the recipes for a bunch of mystery shoppers, I feel refreshed. Since ai will have some time on my hands maybe I will attempt to put them in short story format. I ask forgiveneas in advance for all the poetic licence.
Oh no, that's awful! That's a fast exit from the hospital after surgery, though, so shows that you have a strong constitution! Could you please tell me your symptoms? It's good to know in case one of us has an issue and doesn't know what it could be. So sorry that happened to you. So now do you have to watch what you eat? Ugh.
Have you, or anyone else, ever tried BitGym? I've been thinking about it.

I don't know if they changed the recipes. I just used to use my sister's and it was awesome. Great recipes, so.. nothing in specific. I just want the original recipes. I feel like the revised versions will be adapted to all of today's diets, and I really want the old versions of recipes before everything in the known world was supposed to be bad for you. grinning smiley

Thank you for the offer, though. The newly revised edition was just released on Amazon. I think it goes for around $25 or so. I'm pretty sure it was less than $30.

Well, now, that's a horse of a different color. smiling smiley I'm going to have to go look them up.
