FIVE GUYS IS BACK!!

This is the first time I've seen a delivery shop in my area. Here are the fees as listed:

Shop Fee: $8.00
Reimbursement for food, up to: $15.00
Delivery, Service Fee, + Tip Reimbursement, up to: $15.00

Usually it's only $12 for reimbursement. Is it usually more for delivery?

Is the $15 for the fees Door Dash or whatever delivery service they use charges along with tip?

Thanks.
The prices will be higher if you need to use a 3rd party delivery service. Try to order through the FG site to get in-store pricing, but it's not always possible. In my case, they claim that they do not deliver to me, but when I check DD or Uber Eats, they are both happy to deliver. Panera does the same thing, which is ridiculous.

And yes, the fees are for DD. On my last shop, my fees and a $5 tip for DD came out to $14.18. I feel like I'd like to tip higher to get closer to the $15, but not sure how high the MSC will let me go or if they will even care. So I click the highest of the suggested tip amounts on DD.

I have a new entree fave that is under reimbursement: a grilled cheese with tomato and onions tastes so darn good.

The higher reimbursement is in case your Five Guys has a minimum order amount for delivery.

No, it's because FG charges more for items when ordered on third party delivery services to cover their markup. In the instructions, they say that some locations may have a higher minimum and to order a larger size but say nothing about paying more in that case.

You are right.
My guidelines said to try to order off the fiveguys.com website first, which I did. It was delivered by DoorDash but I did not use their website. I didn't compare prices from previous shops.

It did not allow anyplace for a tip to be added on the Five Guys website.

Are you sure about that? I just did a mock order on their site (had to pick an address other than my house because they keep claiming they cannot deliver to me even though I've never had a problem when I order from DoorDash) and there is a section for a tip on the right side of the screen. However, it does not default to anything, unlike DD which does. Also noticed that the delivery charge from FG is $8 which is pretty much the same as DD charged, but at least you get the lower menu prices.

@wrosie I agree with @MisterBill... The last time I did a delivery shop for Five Guys, I ordered directly from the Five Guys website (fulfilled by Doordash) and remember being able to tip directly on the site/checkout page. Are you sure you didn't accidentally miss it? There are so many listed charges like order details, delivery fees, service fees, who-knows-what fees that it might be easy to lose sight of a "tip" section.

Somewhat off-topic, but I was scoping out Doordash for another delivery job (not Five Guys) and noticed they have a new (to me, anyways) "Regulatory Response Fee" of $1.50 on top of the Delivery fee and regular/other Service Fees (15% in my area). They state that the Regulatory Response Fee is because: "A local regulation has temporarily capped the fees that we may charge local restaurants. To continue to offer you convenient delivery while ensuring that dashers are active and earning, you will now see an additional fee that we are charging for local orders in this area."
The fee listed and I was charged was $4.99, but there was no place I saw for a tip. I looked for it because the guidelines said I must tip between 10-15%. I was going to tip in cash.

Even though I didn't request a contact-less delivery, that's what I was provided. I didn't see the text message that my food had arrived and my order was left in the outside cold for over 10 minutes. This made the food really bad especially the fries (I later saw on their website they recommend reheating them in the oven at 350 degrees for five minutes).

I would have thought they would have rang the bell or knocked, but I guess everyone believes we live by text messages now.

I have that as well, and it was $1 for my order. The legislators came up with this crazy rule and just expected the delivery companies to eat the difference. Wrong. I've added it to the fees section on the FG shop because I don't have money left if I add it as a tax in the food section.
not sure if mentioned before or not

Do FG kitchen workers wear masks? ...Or any other restaurant kitchen workers (the ones making the food)?

Here on Long Island they definitely do.

I had one bad experience in August 2020 in a 5G just north of the Bronx. All 5 crew members had masks but all 5 wore them "I'm a clueless idiot" style, with mask covering mouth but nose exposed. Most of my 5G reports tend to be positive but I ripped them a new one over this.

I went back about a month ago, and all staff were wearing the masks properly. Some of the other issues (bathroom) at this site still existed but at least they have the masks right now.

Here's a new one. I just called to try and get that location assigned to me. After three attempts I finally spoke to someone who told me that I have a "web only restriction" on my account and that apparently the phone people cannot schedule me. Has anyone ever heard of something like this?
No one responded to my question about this. Has anyone else been told that they are on a web-only restriction? Amusingly, while the FG schedulers will apparently not talk to me, I've gotten calls from two schedulers this week from their merchandising department asking if I would do work for them. I guess maybe they got upset when I left messages asking them to call me back with an offer to do a shop.

I am back in rotation this week at my local FG, but someone already took the lunch shop. Next week's lunch is curbside pickup, which is interesting since this location was never doing them during the height of the pandemic (they really don't have an obvious place to park for curbside orders).
@MisterBill Sorry, I don't have an answer to your "web-only restriction", since I've never experienced that myself and haven't heard anything about it before. Maybe @mfisherri would know, since I think they work for the MSC?

Be careful about the 5G Curbside shops. The locations around me stopped offering curbside several months ago (the 5G website says "Curbside not available" for all the restaurants around me), but the MSC still has "Curbside shops" listed on the job board. I had signed up for one of the curbside shops shortly after they apparently stopped being an option in my area, and I was told by the MSC to report it as a closed location. You cannot shop it as an online/dine-in/phone/etc. shop. So you'll basically end up getting the "closed location fee" (I think it was only the $3 too) if curbside isn't available at your assigned restaurant.

I asked the Help Desk a few weeks ago why the curbside shops were still being posted when that isn't an option for the restaurants in my area. They replied rather curtly that they have various types of 5G shops to be completed, and to look at the guidelines...which didn't really answer my specific question in any way.

Good point! I just checked the 5G website and it does not show curbside as an option for that location! It does still show it for another one that I have done curbside shops at. That would suck to have to report it as closed for $3 (and yes, that is the fee).

@Misterbill, @sstsau - A little background here...currently the MS and Merch/Theatre work is scheduled out of two different platforms (they keep promising me a consolidated platform, but I don't know when it will be finished, soon I hope) which is why the merchandising assignors have no problem giving you a call. The MS team does use "web restrictions" for various reasons, if you want to DM me your shopper ID or email, I can take a look for you and see what I can figure out.
It seems 5G hasn't quite updated all of their location options as more store states start to lift lock-downs. I'll ping the Account Manager and have her request an update so we can hopefully avoid wasting everyone's time trying to schedule shops that can't be donesad smiley
Thanks for the tag. Happy to answer questions when I can..Sherri
So I finally got a call from the phone scheduler today for one of my locations and got my usual $25.
Did one of my usual FG today and got suspicious that they knew who I was when the employee said "here you go boss" when giving me the food. But then I remembered that he immediately told me the total without asking if I wanted fries or a drink, so it must have just been my gray hair (and paranoia).

Veggie sandwich, regular fries and large drink up to $12.69 at this location today.

Just noticed there are now 4 'certification tests' that must be passed to do these shops. I have not even been signing up for them lately because the prices here are so high, you make next to nothing with the typical pay offered.

"Boss" is a pretty common salutation here on Long Island, not sure where you are but I wouldn't make too much of it.

Don't know why but the bonuses have been flowing in my area last 2 go-rounds, I'm going to have to eat 5G the next three days but it's worth it.

Also, as an aside, I'm starting to get daily scheduler calls from Georgia numbers, it had always been the Michigan number up until recently.

Really? I've ever even seen certification tests on the site we've all been talking about here.

Meanwhile, I somehow got taken out of rotation for my closest location after doing a delivery shop. That is not supposed to block you from doing in-restaurant shops. I still see this month's delivery shop. It was the location that had the incorrect curbside shop for last week that someone here was supposed to look into, then all the shops disappeared.

Well, I was curious, so I looked for Certification tests. I couldn't find any, so I searched the Help function, and found this:
"Home page provides a handy way for you to view the following:

Incomplete/In Progress Shops - the number of shops you've started to report but have not completed
Shops to Report - the number of shops you need to report but have not started yet.
Current messages/bulletins for our Shoppers.
Shop certification tests you are eligible to take, if any."

Having found that, I looked at my Home Page. I, at least, don't currently, have any Certification Tests to take. I did find a broadcast message from the MSC from last December.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008

Perhaps @hokiezz meant "screening questions"? Like the ones asking if you've ever been employed by Five Guys that you have to answer before you can assign yourself to a shop? I forget exactly how many of these questions Five Guys has...but it might be 4?

I have read mixed reviews on DD drivers. Did the DD driver have an hot bag with them when they deliver your food? If not, then they are not doing their job. This is why I will never use DD because most of the drivers do not carry bags. There is at least one DD driver that I am friends with who always carries an bag with them.

They are supposed to ring the door bell when you arrived. I would have called DD and let them know what the driver did. I bet they did not have a hot bag either.

ETA; They are also supposed to take pictures of where they left the food. DD does not care about their customers..

Nope, actual certification. Very strangely, the notes about this have disappeared! I swear I'm not going crazy! The other day when I looked at an available Five Guys shop (even though I have done several before) it had a note that I was not eligible until I passed the certifications. It listed them in 4 parts along with a time estimate of 19 minutes total to complete. Maybe I am going crazy...!
@hokiezz Thanks for clarifying! That does seem very strange! I don't see any certification requirements when I click on available shops, and I don't recall ever seeing or having to do one. Maybe it was a glitch? Either way, you have me intrigued!
Hi all - Five Guys does have a certification, but it was turned off last year due to Covid and the challenges that getting locations covered. It will be coming back shortly, stay tuned!
